Summary:

The subject matter expert (SME) will serve as a Senior Engineering SME, supporting an Engineering team as part of a large, complex cybersecurity, engineering and PMO contract for a federal customer. The Senior Engineering SME will be highly proficient in solutioning towards organizational business objectives and engineering goals and will interface seamlessly with contractor teams, government leads and external stakeholders. The Senior Engineering SME will drive technical oversight of solutioning, planning and development of new and enhanced IT and engineering-related projects in a federal cloud environment workspace utilizing Windows, VMWare, Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Senior Engineering SME will support engineers within the organization and interface with external stakeholders to drive technical solutioning and development. The Senior Engineering SME will also closely collaborate with project managers to integrate engineering activities and with cybersecurity and compliance teams to solve problems, provide expertise, and maintain cybersecurity compliance, aligned to federal guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, possess the inherent interest to continue learning new technologies to solve problems and have a collaborative and continual improvement mindset in all facets of the role.

Job Duties:

  • Oversees and drives all technical development efforts. Responsible for Technical Requirements, Unit Test plan, Production Readiness Checklist and Technical Design, System/Data Architecture (if applicable).
  • Responsible for the underlying architecture, as well as for overseeing the work being done by other engineers working on the project and closely collaborates with the PM to ensure timely completion
  • Provides deep expertise of a particular domain critical to the management, development and/or completion of the project
  • Collaborates with project team members to communicate project status and issues to the Service Owner and Program Manager.
  • Assists with clarification of project objectives and works with Project Manager to define the project's deliverables and requirements.
  • Leverages knowledge, expertise and relationships with other stakeholders in other areas of DHS (i.e. OneNet and other Components) to collaboratively solve engineering problems


Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Candidate must have at least 15 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or CompTIA Security+ certifications
  • Extensive experience providing leadership in planning, solutioning and deploying engineering solutions on multiple projects for a federal customer.
  • Extensive experience delivering engineering solution strategies aligned with the business objectives and mission of an organization for use in federal agencies
  • Extensive experience in the design of engineering solutions using industry best practices.
  • Experience in planning, designing, and executing the migration of enterprise infrastructures
  • Experience providing engineering solutioning AWS and Azure environments and leveraging AWS and Azure to stand up new environments.
  • Extensive experience developing engineering solutions in a multi-platform environment
  • Previous experience developing engineering solutions within DHS a plus
  • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing project review support, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Strong Agile-minded perspective on iterative, continual delivery and the ability to decompose a large, complex engineering effort into smaller, executable pieces
  • Focused, collaborative mindset to include all stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of an engineering project
  • Deft ability to facilitate deeper technical sessions while clearly articulating highly technical discussions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a continuous process improvement culture
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to understand and effectively communicate technical concepts in a compelling, persuasive manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with numerous counterparts and rapport, including contract stakeholders and government representatives.
  • Capable of working under tight deadlines and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time and resource management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and function effectively as a member of a team and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical/business solutions to personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate extremely strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and work ethic
  • Ability to work odd hours outside of standard schedule as needed, e.g. weekends or after normal work hours.
