DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Day-to-Day Operations Responsibilities
- Knows how to provide provisions, maintain, transition, and decommission IT services
- Manage department’s finances, including budgeting and forecasting
- Ability to obtain and maintain strong relationships with IT vendors
- Thoroughly understands and can implement standards like NIST, ITAR, CMMC, etc requirements to satisfy government contracts
- Must be able to support a mixed environment that includes but is not limited to, Windows/Mac/Linux, and vastly different user competencies
- Identify and eliminate security vulnerabilities with strategic solutions that increase data security
- Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
- Coordinates IT activities to ensure data availability and network services with as little downtime as necessary
- Identify the need for upgrades, configurations, or new systems
- Meet and collaborate with all levels of staff and engineering departments as necessary
- Devise and enforce IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by upper management
- Thoroughly understands best practices for managing user application permissions via LDAP/AD
- Manages documentation and functional redundancy, as well as disaster planning
- Fosters a cooperative, friendly working relationship between IT personnel and all IT customers (i.e., business users, contractors, suppliers) to facilitate open communications resulting in a high level of cooperation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Management Responsibilities
- Directly supervise, train and support IT staff
- Handling employees’ concerns and help guide their job performance
- Coordinate and oversee IT Staff’s day to day responsibilities
Qualifications
Education and Technical Requirements
- B.S. in information technology or a related field
- At least 10 years of direct IT management experience
- Experience with database administration (MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB, etc.)
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance
- Very comfortable in Linux development and execution environments
- Must be comfortable with embedded networks that have high-throughput requirements and remote internet access
- Must possess a broad understanding of tech theories and applications from a macro-level
- Must stay abreast to new trends and shifts in technology
- Ability to function in an engineering-focused company, with engineering development-related services and the databases that support them (i.e., Altium, Gitlab, SolidWorks, Docker, etc.)
- Support desktop users on Win/Mac/Linux platforms
- Support Win/Ubuntu/RHEL servers in an ESXi cluster
- Strong knowledge of NAS and SAN technologies – experience with AWS (S3, Glacier) a plus
- Understanding basic networking concepts and possess the ability to build small upgrades into the existing infrastructure
- Experience with securing and auditing a small information system
- Experience with Radius and Enterprise level Wi-Fi skills
- Experience supporting enterprise shared resources such as printers and plotters
Soft Required Skills
- Must understand the importance “validate on the development environment before pushing changes to production” to ensure smooth transitions and decrease downtime
- Understands how to triage customer needs according to severity and criticality
- Understands when research is warranted prior to rolling out a change vs being comfortable/experienced with the kind of change such that “your gut” is sufficient
- The ability to wear multiple hats, balance ops support, and continuous improvement projects
- Ability to ingest highly technical requirements and generate easily understood instructions
- The ability to provide desk-side service to VIP clients
Preferred
- Masters-level degree, such as an MS in information technology or an MBA focusing on tech or business
- CISSP Certification or similar
- Experience with Avaya phone systems
- Previous Government (Sub Contractor) experience preferred
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee will also be frequently required to stand. The employee must frequently lift, push, or pull equipment at a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to climb ladders, maneuver in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods

Work Environment
The IT Director will spend part of the day working at their own desk but will likely move about the building frequently as they address issues with others’ computers and systems. This job will require lifting, reaching, bending, and twisting.
This role will also require IT support to employees remotely, off-site and testing locations. You will be required to answer incoming calls, messages, and emails to perform installations, configurations, updates, and troubleshooting. In this job, you may be required to travel.
Generally, this employee will maintain standard office hours but will be required to work early-morning hours, evenings, and weekends when necessary.
