Job Description
ASRC Federal Professional Services is seeking a Cataloging Librarian to support the library at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This is a fulltime position working on a long-standing contract with a team of experienced librarians and paraprofessionals maintaining one of the premier collections of technical materials in the USA.
The USPTO library is actively transitioning to a position where 90% of the materials will be electronic, but there will still be some work with the physical collection. As part of a team the librarian will receive and process new materials, label print orders, and forward received orders to the requestors.

Responsibilities
- Original and copy cataloging of print books and periodicals using RDA (training available).
- Serials check-in: Updating electronic and print serials records changes and recording frequency, publisher or title changes as well as discontinued titles.
- Catalog maintenance: correcting bibliographic records, correcting item records, adding item records to catalog.
- Physical Collection Maintenance: properly labeling print books/serials with call number, location and barcode stickers shelf-reading and shelving of print materials performing collection inventory.
- Weeding print items from catalog which includes deleting item and bibliographic records, removing holdings from OCLC if title is no longer in USPTO catalog.
- Authority control including updating and correcting subject, name, title, etc. authorities as well as removing obsolete authorities from records.
Requirements
Education/Experience
- Master's degree in library science
- 3 years of library experience working in cataloging or serials control
- Familiarity with ALMA Integrated Library System or a similar system is highly desired.
