We are hiring a Custom Research Analyst to join ISS' Customized Research Services. This position builds enduring client relationships to understand their needs and provide them with advisory services and expertise on global corporate governance trends, policies, guidelines, and best methods. You'll complete client-specific projects on corporate governance trends, data, research policy-related issues, and support teammates in their completion of client projects. The Customer Research Analyst cultivates the regional team’s governance expertise and professional development and leads projects across departments. This role will also have the opportunity to collaborate and network with institutional investors, corporate executives, and other market players.
Senior Institutional Advisors operate as members of global regional teams to aid clients in the building customized guidelines that reflect their unique corporate governance philosophies. The teams use a proprietary software, in combination with analysts’ global corporate governance expertise, to offer customized proxy vote recommendations and rationales based on proxy voting guidelines. We also keep clients informed of new trends and emerging issues in the investment community and focus on optimization through customized peer comparison reports, analytics, and research.
What You'll Do:Lead a team of regional Institutional Advisors to maintain Customized Research’s standard operating procedures and actively monitor compliance
Partner with clients to update, develop, or formulate their proxy voting guidelines, offering well-reasoned recommendations and insights
Research proposals to be voted on at annual shareholder meetings of publicly traded companies from a client-specific perspective
Build an understanding of shareholder/corporate governance issues through research and collaboration with investors and executives
Contribute to seasonal reviews, client calls, and client-focused research reports, answer queries on research analyses, and discuss policies/vote recommendations as needed
Conduct peer reviews and contribute to the development of other research analysts and to ISS policy formulation/update efforts
Find opportunities to enhance the department's service offering, including operational improvement initiatives, and work with Corporate Technology to develop, improve, and test applications that will benefit clients, the department, and the company as a whole
Strong analytical abilities, comfort with ambiguity, and superior problem-solving skills and judgement
Intellectual curiosity and dedication to mastering complex concepts
Good understanding and experience working with business technology in an operational context and strong digital literacy with previous experience/excellent knowledge of MS Office
Strong client service ethic and exceptional relationship-building skills
Confident and consistent under pressure
Bachelor's degree, plus 1-3 years' relevant professional experience in research, governance, journalism, law, economics, accounting and/or finance
Excellent writing and oral communication skills with the ability to formulate and support a position on an issue
Attention to detail, dedicated work ethic, and able to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to foster team’s professional growth
Willing to work long hours and weekends primarily during peak weeks (March to June) and as needed throughout the year.
The Washington, DC expected base pay range is $60,000- $65,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education.
The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
