Galveston County Health District is looking for a detail-oriented County Indigent Claims Specialist to support the administration of the county’s indigent healthcare program. What You’ll Do:
• Review and process hospital and specialty claims for the indigent healthcare program
• Verify patient eligibility, demographics, and coverage prior to claim approval
• Maintain accurate and detailed records for all claims
• Monitor workflow and backlog to ensure timely claim processing
• Serve as a liaison with healthcare providers, third-party administrators, and county partners
• Identify errors or discrepancies and recommend process improvements
• Review check registers and prepare monthly and annual reports
• Research aged claims, process refunds, and resolve denied or past-due claims
• Assist clients and providers with questions regarding claims
• Stay up to date with indigent healthcare regulations and program requirements
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
• Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible office experience
• Strong analytical, organizational, and data entry skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, or healthcare claims preferred
• Ability to interpret financial and healthcare-related documents preferred
• Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain)
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed
• Must comply with immunization requirements
• Must pass background check, MVR check (if applicable), and drug/alcohol screening
