As a Compliance and Operational Risk Officer within Australia & New Zealand Compliance, Conduct and Operational Risk, you will work as part of the Country Compliance team that gives advice to internal stakeholders on the impact of regulatory requirements to the corporate group. You’ll also provide input on, and support regulatory change and engagement, policies and education, monitoring, reporting and governance of compliance risks, operational processes, risk mitigation and control. The work is varied and time critical.

You’ll work with regional and global compliance partners and collaborate closely with other compliance and operational risk stakeholders. The team operates at the intersection of regulatory change, business growth, and control effectiveness—balancing customer experience with strong risk outcomes. 

Job responsibilities

  • Give advice to internal stakeholders and develop frameworks on regulatory requirements, Compliance policies, risk mitigation and controls and new business initiatives.
  • Provide input on regulatory change and issues.
  • Interact with key stakeholders and regulators on our Compliance and Operational Risk program.
  • Preparation and delivery of Compliance training and drafting and managing Compliance monitoring tasks and reporting.
  • Coordination with line of business compliance groups as well as other corporate control functions such as business management, controls, audit, tax and finance as required.
  • Assist in the design, development, implementation and ongoing operation of the Compliance and Operational Risk program.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, reviews, and inspections by managing evidence collection, issue tracking, and action plan governance.
  • Promote a strong compliance and risk culture by partnering across teams, communicating expectations clearly, and reinforcing accountability.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a legal, compliance, or related regulatory compliance work, with tertiary qualification in law, commerce or a related discipline. 
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the financial services industry in Australia and New Zealand.
  • You’ll need to have strong attention to detail and have excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience in a complex, multi-entity or global financial institution environment.
  • We’re looking for independent, analytical thinkers who can quickly adapt to new situations and demonstrated experience translating financial services regulatory requirements into actionable controls, procedures, and governance routines.
  • Experience coordinating regulatory engagements (for example, supervisory reviews, information requests, and remediation commitments).
  • Experience supporting audit, controls testing, or issue management, including evidence preparation and remediation tracking.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and drive outcomes across teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality orientation, and sound judgement under time pressure or incomplete information.

Skills Required
