Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
As a member of the Legal Staff and Global Ethics & Compliance Center, the council will strive to be a role model for the Company by supporting the delivery of high-performance services with high integrity. The Legal team strives deliver timely, best-in-class business advisory and legal services in close collaboration with business partners to accomplish their objectives while simultaneously protecting GM's high standards of legal, ethical, and financial integrity.
General Motors is seeking Compliance Counsel position to represent the Compliance team collaboratively partner to provide legal advice and business counsel to GM on a global scale. Providing counsel and assistance to the Chief Compliance Officer, Regional Compliance Officers, and members of the Global Ethics & Compliance Center.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Identifying, assessing, and addressing areas of compliance risk
- Supporting for global anti-money laundering compliance activities
- Support compliance assurance activities including risk assessments, and using data and analytics to inform compliance activities
- Complete transactional review, compliance audits and monitoring, and addressing compliance aspects of joint ventures.
- conflicts of interest, gifts, and entertainment review.
- providing legal advice to business units.
- supporting anti-corruption focused due diligence; and
- supporting policy and related training development.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Active license to practice law in Michigan or at least one other US jurisdiction, and (if not admitted in Michigan) the ability to qualify for in-house practice in Michigan
- Completion of Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
- 4+ Years of experience in a in-house or law firm with corporate clients, internal investigations and compliance reviews
- Subject-matter expertise on compliance program design and implementation, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the U.K. Bribery Act (UKBA), conflicts of interest, training, policy development, and compliance risk assessments.
- Experience working in a complex business structure.
- Managerial courage demonstrated through effective, direct, and respectful communication.
- Proven ability to establish rapport and create an environment of continuous improvement.
- Strong oral and written communicator.
- Commitment to integrity and quality.
- Aptitude for critical thinking and finding a solution through problem solving.
- Well Developed Business Acumen
- Highly organized and adept at working in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge and experience in key legal trends that impact the business.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Significant experience in an in-house counsel position supporting internal investigation, compliance review, and anti-corruption experience
- Experience with automotive or manufacturing industry
This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
