Job Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3) to five (5) years general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment or suitable experience
- Post-secondary education from a recognized business program (Finance/Accounting) or equivalent related experience
- Experience with integrated financial/manufacturing software packages
- Competency in Microsoft Office PC software package - Excel, Word and Access
- Strong attention to detail and strong organization skills
- Good interpersonal skills, combined with a strong drive for continuous improvement
- Experience in preparing business cases, budgets and forecasts
- Ability to work effectively within team environment
- Ability to uphold confidentiality
- Ability to work well under variable workload and work overtime to meet customer needs
- A strong work ethic in a busy environment
- Ability to analyze problems skillfully.
- Skilled in working with personnel from other work groups and departments to complete interrelated tasks and resolve issues, coordinates own work with others, show leadership in proposing solutions and seeks other opinion if necessary
- Maintains high standards while working within tight deadlines
- Exercises a professional approach with others using all appropriate tools of communication
- Follows detailed procedures and ensures accuracy in documentation and data
- A strong grasp of standard costing development, absorption costing and cost analysis is required.
- Software knowledge - SAP system familiarity is essential, and automotive portals such as GM SupplyPower, Covisint, eSupplier Connect and Ariba would be an advantage.
- Experience of month end reconciliations for sub-ledgers to General Ledger
- CPA designation or enrollment would be an advantage
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with managing allocated areas of the General Ledger, including all inventory accounts (Production, Tooling, Prototype, MRO Spares)
- Analyze monthly spending
- Month-end and year-end close activities for the plant
- Assist in the preparation of annual plant Budget and Quarterly Forecasts, including responsibility for the preparation of detailed Sales and cost of sales budget, Gross Margin by Part and Contribution Analysis, and other reports.
- Develop annual material, labor and burden standards.
- Ensure accuracy of plant production reporting
- Perform analysis of manufacturing costs and variances.
- Coordinate annual physical inventory, oversee on-going cycle counts
- Interdependency with Materials Department with respect to inventory quantities (internal and External)
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures
- Examine, analyze and interpret production variances for manufacturing and financial management including material, labor, and overhead variances
- Responsible for month-end close process relating to cost of sales.
- Inventory valuation and reconciliation including perpetual, WIP, in transit, capitalized variances and excess & obsolete inventory reserves
- Standard cost development and maintenance, including cost rolls, review BOM, routings, & Purchase Order history.
- Review and resolve daily Standard Costing issues prompted by the ERP system and key personnel in a timely manner.
- Prepare or support preparation of all required analysis as directed to meet dictated schedule timelines
- Ensures that proper internal controls are established and maintained
- Applies accounting expertise to ensure financial records & statements are in accordance with GAAP and Magna Finance Policy
- Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
- Safeguard all financial/personnel documents and keep all financial/personnel matters private and confidential.
- Develop and maintain good procedures and systems for all required financial tracking.
- Protect the assets of the company by continual review and awareness of internal control issues, with appropriate recommendations for improvements.
- Co-ordinate the preparation of information for entry into the accounting system.
- Ensure that all applicable general ledger accounts are reconciled / analyzed to a level acceptable to both internal and external audit tests.
- Assists with preparing referenced year-end audit file for review
- Provides routine and impromptu analysis of account balances
