Description
Assists the head of a Bureau or Service in a state department, institution, or agency by performing and coordinating administrative support services: does other related work.
Specific to the Position

Position 1:
Provide administrative support to the Office of Local Government Assistance by maintaining municipal and county contact databases, preparing correspondence and outreach materials, coordinating meetings and events, and assisting with office operations. Track inquiries from local government officials, update records, prepare reports and meeting materials, and support NJDEP participation in conferences and outreach events. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are preferred. This position offers the opportunity to support initiatives that strengthen partnerships between NJDEP and local governments throughout New Jersey.

Position 2:
Assist the Office of Legislative Affairs with researching and tracking legislation related to environmental and regulatory issues. Support staff by monitoring bills, maintaining legislative tracking records, attending virtual meetings, taking notes, drafting responses to referrals, and assisting with special projects. Strong research, organization, and written communication skills are essential. Experience reviewing legislative bills or public policy issues is preferred. This position provides valuable exposure to the legislative process and the coordination between NJDEP, elected officials, and government stakeholders.
Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Five (5) years of professional experience in a business or government agency providing administrative support services and/or coordinating work activities.
OR
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.
NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Skills Required

  • All U.S. degrees/transcripts must be from an accredited institution; foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized service.
  • Authorization to work in the United States per DHS/USCIS regulations (no visa sponsorship provided).
  • Driver's license valid in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary to perform duties.
