Job Description: Corporate Tax Director (Media)

Location:

NEW GROUND WON'T BREAK ITSELF.

A look into the role

We're looking for a Director to support our Media and Entertainment tax team. You'll work with a broad range of clients across the sector, providing corporate tax advisory and compliance services, and bringing together deep technical knowledge of creative industry reliefs with broader corporate tax expertise.

One day you might be getting into the detail of a Creative Industry Tax Relief claim; the next, you're in the boardroom talking through what an international restructuring or a sale process means for a client's next production or investment round. This role suits someone who moves comfortably between the two.

Portfolio leadership

  • Supporting our portfolio of corporate tax compliance and provision engagements, with particular responsibility for complex Creative Industry Tax Relief claims across TV, film and video games
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for a defined client base, building relationships that go well beyond the engagement in front of you

Audit of tax

  • Leading large and complex audit of tax engagements for media sector clients, managing the relationship with audit teams and reviewing the technical positions that sit behind the numbers

Tax structuring and advisory

  • Advising media clients on tax structuring, including international expansion and migration of operations and rights
  • Providing Enterprise Investment Scheme advice to clients raising investment into qualifying media and entertainment ventures

Transactions

  • Supporting the transactions practice on deal structuring and tax diligence for media companies, including sell-side advisory, and bringing your sector knowledge to bear on the specific risks and reliefs that shape media deals

People and team

  • Managing, coaching and developing a team of tax professionals, and taking an active role in their technical training and career progression
  • Setting the standard for quality and technical rigour across the team's output
  • Playing a part in recruitment and resourcing decisions for the media tax team

Operations

  • Owning financial performance for your portfolio, including billing, recoveries and WIP management
  • Making sure engagements are risk-managed appropriately and in line with firm policy
  • Contributing to the wider operational running of the tax service line

Business development and market presence

  • Building and maintaining a network of contacts across the media sector, including intermediaries, industry bodies and target clients
  • Spotting and converting new business opportunities within existing and new clients
  • Representing the firm at industry events and contributing to thought leadership on media sector tax matters
  • Working with colleagues across the firm to spot cross-selling opportunities

Knowing you're right for us

Ideally, we're looking for someone who is fully tax qualified and comfortable leading an engagement across the entire corporate tax role - compliance, provision, advisory and reliefs. That said, subject to the wider business case, we'd also welcome a candidate whose strength is signing off Creative Industry Tax Relief claims, working alongside a Tax Partner or Director to cover the rest of the corporate tax scope.

  • CTA and/or ACA qualified (or equivalent), with significant post-qualification experience in corporate tax
  • Strong technical knowledge of Creative Industry Tax Reliefs across TV, film and video games
  • Experience advising on tax structuring, including international expansion and migration
  • A track record of managing complex compliance and advisory engagements, ideally including audit of tax work
  • Experience supporting transactions, including sell-side advisory and tax diligence
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Investment Scheme rules and how they apply to media and entertainment clients is an advantage
  • Proven people management experience, with a genuine interest in developing others
  • Existing relationships or credibility within the media and entertainment sector are an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and represent the firm externally

Knowing we're right for you

This is a role with real scope to shape our media tax offering, backed by the firm's national tax network and sector specialists across audit and advisory. You'll have autonomy to build your own client relationships and market presence, genuine investment in your development as a leader, and a team that will back you to do it.

Beyond the job

Life is more than work. The things you do, and the people you're with outside of work matter, that's why we're happy to look at flexible working options for all our roles, and we'll always do our best to keep your work and life in balance.

The impact you can make here will go far beyond your day job. From secondments, to fundraising for local charities, or investing in entrepreneurs in the developing world, you'll be giving back to society. It's that drive to do the right thing that runs through our every move, grounded in our firm's values – purposefully driven, actively curious and candid but kind.

We're looking for people who want to contribute, spark fresh ideas and go beyond expectations. People who want to be able to proudly do what's right, for the firm, our clients, our people and themselves. It's how it should be.

Skills Required

  • CTA and/or ACA qualified, or equivalent
  • Significant post-qualification experience in corporate tax
  • Strong technical knowledge of Creative Industry Tax Reliefs across TV, film, and video games
  • Experience advising on tax structuring, including international expansion and migration

  • Experience supporting transactions, including sell-side advisory and tax diligence
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Investment Scheme rules for media and entertainment clients
