Job Description Summary:

The Capilano University Library is seeking a Copyright and Public Services Librarian to join our faculty in a Regular Limited Term position from October 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027. The librarian in this role will be responsible for teaching critical information literacy workshops for English 100 and other courses, providing in-person and online research services for the campus community, co-managing our institutional repository, and developing copyright education and tools for students, faculty, and colleagues. The librarian in this position will work primarily at our North Vancouver campus, with one day per week at the Squamish campus during the fall and spring terms while classes are in session.

Job Description:

We have a robust teaching program at CapU. We help students and faculty become more skilled at library research and critical information literacy both in the classroom and at our Research Help Desk. Our team values active learning, needs- and outcomes-based class design, and critical approaches to pedagogy, technologies, and research processes. The librarian in this role can expect mentorship in learning design and delivery as they teach classes primarily in English 100 classrooms and similar courses. Work on the Research Help Desk will involve providing personalized, one-on-one research support in-person and online via chat or video call.  

As part of offering student support to the Squamish campus, this librarian will act as a liaison between the Squamish team and the library, including collaborating with the Squamish Student Success and Experience team members on student-focused initiatives as time and their areas of responsibility permit.  

The copyright portfolio includes collaborating with the University Librarian to develop copyright education and awareness, including promoting fair dealing and users' rights. This librarian will develop and maintain copyright education and tools for campus community use, such as our Copyright Guide, and provide copyright support in response to individual needs. This will include providing support to library staff for ILL and course pack processes. 

The Copyright and Public Services Librarian also collaborates with the systems team to manage the CapU Institutional Repository, focusing on collection development, teaching opportunities, and faculty partnerships.

Required Qualifications

• MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited university, or MLIS in progress with a Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 completion date

Required Skills and Experience

• Outstanding service orientation and public service experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment 

• Knowledge of the Canadian copyright context and the rights and responsibilities of university students and faculty

• Ability to design and deliver a lesson that prioritizes active learning and based on discrete learning outcomes

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking

• Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing and diverse campus environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience or training in instructional design, adult learning, or teaching

Our Working Environment

This is a full-time (35 hours/week) position from October 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027. As this position was generated by a temporary secondment, we do not expect the position to be extended or to become permanent.

The Copyright and Public Services Librarian will join a team of seven other faculty librarians who work within a collegial management model. All librarians participate in collective decision-making related to work within the department, attend department meetings, and participate in peer evaluation, search-hire committees, and other working groups in the Library and across campus. Librarians collaborate with the University Librarian, Library staff, and partners across campus.

Benefits for this position include 42 annual vacation days and 42 professional development days, prorated for a mid-year start. We have a typical working schedule of Monday to Friday with flexible start and end times. Librarians work on campus and remotely, and the successful candidate can determine which day of the week they will spend at the Squamish campus according to their availability and the campus’s service needs.

The Capilano Faculty Association Collective Agreement informs our work, including our rights and responsibilities. The successful candidate will be placed on the faculty salary scale according to their previous experience as outlined in the collective agreement.

A full-time workload for 12 months is expressed at Capilano University as 8 sections. Because this position will start mid-year, the number of sections will be prorated to the start date. For example, an October 1 start date will result in 7.3337 sections. The salary scale is from $9,420 per section to a maximum of $14,391 per section, or $69,083 to $105,539 for the 11-month term, depending on scale placement.
