Job Description
The Washington Post seeks a copy editor to join its breaking news hub in Seoul, South Korea. This person will edit copy for multiple platforms and across subject matter. The position is based in Seoul and will involve working daytime hours and one weekend day per week. This job will be staffed through our local entity in South Korea, subject to local legal requirements. A copy-editing test will be required.
Responsibilities

Copy edit stories for online publication, newsletters, news alerts, graphics, photo galleries and other digital projects.

Help craft digital headlines and photo captions.

Backstop metadata and help optimize stories for SEO.

The ideal candidate will be able to fill in as an assignment editor when needed.

The ideal candidate will also be able to pitch story ideas for the Seoul hub to pursue.
Preferred Qualifications

At least five years of copy-editing experience at a mid-to-large-market English-language news organization.

A strong knowledge of grammar, punctuation, style and SEO.

Good critical thinking skills that allow you to see big-picture issues, while also being able to spot smaller, more detailed errors.

A strong understanding of global events and comfort editing stories on a variety of topics.

The ability to craft headlines with strong SEO that also appeal to readers.

The ability to work quickly while maintaining standards for accuracy and quality.

The ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment.

Experience line editing is a plus.
