POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Coordinator of Sports Performance plays a vital role in executing an elite, high-performance program anchored in sound science, exceptional coaching, and holistic health principles. Serving student-athletes across Middle and Upper School levels, this position is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive sports performance programming—including movement preparation, multidirectional speed, strength and power development, and conditioning.
Working collaboratively under the direction of the Head of High Performance and alongside sports medicine personnel, sport coaches, and academic partners, the Assistant Coordinator leverages weight room metric collection and player-tracking technology (wearable GPS/LPS/accelerometry) to inform training loads, enhance readiness, and mitigate injury risk. Furthermore, this role is dedicated to developing student leadership in sports science, managing facility maintenance, and contributing to team members' professional growth.

WORK SCHEDULE, TIME OFF & HOLIDAYS
Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus set-up and clean-up time during the school year. Summer hours vary. Some weekend and evening work will be required.
Scheduled Time Off: The position includes three weeks of scheduled time off in May and one week during the first week of July. Specific dates are established annually by the Division Head based on the academic and athletic calendars.
Paid Time Off (PTO): The position is awarded 11 days of PTO annually, subject to the School's applicable PTO policies and procedures.
School Holidays: The position observes 17 paid school holidays annually, in accordance with the School's established holiday calendar.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or a related field required
- Certifications:
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist via NSCA)
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification required.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience coaching sports performance / strength & conditioning at the scholastic, collegiate, or elite private sector levels.
- Demonstrated experience working with player tracking technology (e.g., Catapult, PlayerData, GPS/LPS) and weight room sports science technology.
- Core Skills:
- Ability to demonstrate technical athletic movements, lift/move training equipment, and stand or actively move on facility floors for extended periods.
- High energy, positive communication, and ability to inspire and build meaningful relationships with student-athletes.
- Strong technical fluency in data management, motion analysis, and performance software.
- Excellent organizational skills and commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming training environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Program Design & Implementation
- Comprehensive Performance Programming: Designs, implements, and coaches athletic development programs encompassing dynamic warm-ups, movement preparation, multidirectional speed/agility, strength & power development, and targeted conditioning protocols.
- Alignment with Program Philosophy: Ensures all programming reflects Westminster High Performance principles—Sound Science, Exceptional Coaching, and Holistic Health (Mind, Body, Spirit).
- Integration & Coaching: Executes safe, energetic, and motivating training sessions tailored to team-specific and individual athlete needs across multiple Middle and Upper School sports teams.
- Safety & Standards: Maintains rigorous standards of exercise safety, technique execution, and movement quality in accordance with institutional risk management and emergency action protocols.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Sports Science & Player Tracking Technology
- Data Collection & Analysis: Manages daily operations for weight room metric tracking (velocity-based training, force plates, etc.) and wearable GPS/LPS player-tracking systems to monitor external workload, movement demands, accelerations, and speeds.
- Actionable Insights: Analyzes workload and tracking metrics to assist coaches in optimizing practice structures, adjusting training volumes, managing athlete readiness, and safely progressing return-to-play protocols.
- Data Privacy & Governance: Adheres strictly to institutional data privacy guidelines and consent frameworks regarding the use and sharing of student-athlete performance data.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Student & Community Development
- Student Education in Sports Science: Develops educational offerings and hands-on opportunities for students interested in sports performance and sports science.
- Holistic Athlete Mentorship: Collaborates with academic strategists, counselors, and athletic trainers to support student-athletes in managing physical, mental, and academic demands (e.g., balancing executive functioning and athletic training).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Space & Facility Management
- Facility Maintenance: Oversees the daily operations, cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and safety standards for the 4,800 sq. ft. Sports Performance Center and surrounding training spaces.
- Presence in the Sports Performance Center during operating hours (typically 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM) and flexibility to support afternoon practices, team sessions, or occasional weekend athletic events.
- Technology Maintenance: Maintains proper care, charging, calibration, and sanitization of wearable sensors and data hubs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Staff & Leadership Development
- Staff Growth: Assists in training, mentoring, and educating intern coaches, assistant staff, and student assistants in programming philosophy, coaching techniques, and sports science tools.
- Collaborative Culture: Participates in internal coaching, professional development, peer-learning opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the Athletics Department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may regularly lift or move 50-100 pounds and will regularly spot up to 350-400 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close, distance, and color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required and is associated mainly with planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
