JOB SUMMARY:
The Controls Engineer position is responsible for the development and delivery, in coordination with manufacturing engineers, of required manufacturing equipment and systems for manual to highly automated assembly and test equipment. The position will have a strong focus on electrical controls, industrial automation, automated test systems, and software development for manufacturing applications.
LabVIEW programming and development is a mandatory requirement for this position. The Controls Engineer will develop, integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain LabVIEW applications for automated test equipment, data acquisition, measurement systems, equipment control, process monitoring, traceability, and production support. The Engineer will integrate electrical control systems with software and test applications, including sensors, actuators, instrumentation, data acquisition hardware, communication interfaces, HMIs, and other automation components. Experience with PLC-based control systems is preferred.
The Engineer will interact with M&E vendors and manufacturing teams to define electrical, controls, automation, hardware, software, communication, traceability, and testing requirements for new equipment and systems. The Engineer will support equipment integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, validation, and project start-up, including verification of controls and automation requirements at the supplier and manufacturing plant.
The Controls Engineer will provide daily technical support to manufacturing operations, including troubleshooting and resolution of electrical controls, LabVIEW, automation, test equipment, and software-related issues. The position requires strong hands-on problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams, and the ability to support multiple projects while improving the reliability and performance of manufacturing systems.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, and Control Plan requirements and define the required controls, automation, testing, and error-proofing solutions.
- Develop electrical and automation specifications, including control architecture, hardware, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, safety, and communication systems.
- Develop, program, debug, and maintain LabVIEW applications for automated equipment, test systems, data acquisition, measurement, and traceability.
- Integrate LabVIEW with PLCs, instrumentation, sensors, test equipment, databases, and industrial communication systems.
- Provide daily production support and troubleshooting for electrical controls, LabVIEW, automation, and test equipment.
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers for controls development, integration, commissioning, and validation.
- Improve existing automation and control systems through software modifications, equipment upgrades, reliability improvements, and error-proofing.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3–5 years experience in controls, automation, electrical systems, or automated test equipment.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting LabVIEW applications in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with electrical control systems, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, data acquisition, and automated test systems.
- Experience with equipment integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- PLC programming and troubleshooting experience is preferred.
- Experience working with equipment suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams is preferred.
