Controls Engineer

Hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday thru Friday


Responsible for applying engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continually improve manufacturing processes. Functions performed may include: determining the inputs and sequence of processes necessary to perform production operations, recommending the design of production machines and other plant equipment, and advise manufacturing plants with design problems relating to production equipment. Employee may perform other duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs electrical and controls design tasks including the development of programs for use in manufacturing equipment, and selection of electrical components to be incorporated in electro-mechanical systems.
  • Exhibits a working understanding and application of: programming logic controllers (Siemens, GE Fanuc, AB) using functional blocks or ladder, evaluation of software modules, integration of operator interfaces, and design of electrical control panels.
  • Designs, commissions, revises, and supports HMI and PLC/PC based control systems.
  • Employs AutoCAD Electrical to generate detailed schematics and other relevant documentation.
  • Utilize the troubleshooting methodology and formal risk assessments when needed to identify root causes and hazards and apply corrective actions to mitigate issues.
  • Collaboratively evaluates, selects, and applies standard NEC, NFPA79, UL, and ANSI/ISO regulations, as well as internal procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. 
  • Assign tasks and collaborate with engineers in areas such as; development of all documentation related to a project (engineering drawings, circuit designs, material selections, start-up procedures, bill of materials, etc.).
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Occasional travel required (5%).
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices rules in alignment with QMS / EMS requirements.
  • Perform all work procedures according to established Quality Management & Environmental Management Systems.
  • Perform job responsibilities and tasks in compliance to Company policies, procedures and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Other duties as needed.

 

Essential Skills: 

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and analyze periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds for the purposes of generating input and feedback for on-going projects. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with managers, clients, customers, and the public. Work as part of a team to develop the highest quality solutions.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Working knowledge of appropriate engineering formulas used in electrical applications (i.e. voltage, resistance, amperage, etc.). Detailed knowledge of algebraic and geometric concepts and formulas.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Possess basic talent in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to: define the problem or objective; identify relevant concerns or factors, patterns, tendencies, and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications. Ability to interpret and analyze technical data using logic and reasoning.  
  • OTHER: Perform effectively in environments with multiple on-going projects and changes in priority. Work independently when appropriate to complete assignments with minimal direction. Determine the best course of action to find solutions when answers are not obvious or apparent. General knowledge of accounting and business practices to effectively manage budgets.

Skills Required
