Job Summary:

The Controls Engineer will design and develop new systems or processes and enhance or redesign older systems or processes used to control electronic or mechanical systems. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· May oversee technicians during the prototype fabrication and testing phases.

· Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

· Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Analyzes current equipment or processes; identifies areas of inefficiency and needs for improvement; designs and develops controls to meet those needs.

· Collaborates with other engineers to develop accurate, efficient equipment and controls in accordance with safety and usability standards and client expectations.

· Designs and tests prototypes of equipment.

· Creates basic schematics and simulated models to test designs; modifies designs to meet specifications and budget requirements.

· Oversees the implementation of new measuring devices and control systems, ensuring devices are correctly installed and properly tested.

· Acts as project engineer for design, prototype fabrication, and manufacturing development. 

· Drafts and presents formal technical documents, reports, and testing results to manager for approval.

· Drafts technical manuals for instrumentation.

· Provides training related to devices to employees and/or customers.

· Work with HMI & SCADA, database programming, AutoCAD and Microsoft office.

· Customer onsite troubleshooting and maintenance support services

·  Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

· Thorough understanding of test methods, digital and analog circuit design, and the design, development, and application of a wide variety of instruments and controls.

· Thorough understanding of applied math and physics.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

· Proficient with PLC and HMI software, and computer-aided design & (CAD) software. 

· Attention to Detail; taking ownership for thorough and detailed documentation.

· Conceptual Thinking; not all scenarios will all information be presented. Understanding a given situation by combining information that is readily available. May require pattern identification or connections between situations that don’t initially appear related. Identification of key concepts or underlying issues in complex situations.

· Results Oriented- Being persistent and showing perseverance on achieving concrete and tangible results out of personal responsibility; getting optimum results from situations and being ready to act and show tenacity in case of obstacles or resistance.

· Planning and Organizing- Setting priorities and defining actions, time, and resources needed to achieve predefined goals

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering required. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 6-8 years of field experience in a related field and an Associate’s Degree will be considered.· At least two years of practical experience highly desired.

Physical Requirements: 

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.· Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Travel· Travel up to 35% of time . 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering
  • Associate's degree plus 6-8 years of related field experience (acceptable in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • At least two years of practical controls/field experience
  • Proficient with PLC and HMI software
  • Experience with HMI & SCADA and database programming
  • Proficient with AutoCAD / computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Thorough understanding of test methods, digital and analog circuit design, and instrumentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
