Position SummaryThe Corporate Controller is a key financial leader responsible for the integrity of the Company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual partners closely with operational leaders across the organization to provide financial insight, improve business processes, and support profitable growth.
This role extends well beyond traditional accounting responsibilities. The Corporate Controller will help shape the future of the finance organization by driving process improvements, leveraging technology and automation, enhancing business intelligence, and developing a high-performing accounting team. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading people, solving complex business challenges, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership
  • Lead all accounting operations for multiple legal entities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Revenue Recognition, and Job Cost Accounting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes while continually improving efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and supporting analyses.
  • Coordinate the annual budget process and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Develop meaningful financial reporting and KPI dashboards.
  • Analyze financial performance and communicate trends, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
Operational Partnership
  • Partner with Operations leadership to improve profitability and financial performance.
  • Analyze job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), revenue recognition, and project profitability.
  • Provide financial guidance for operational initiatives, strategic planning, and business decisions.
  • Support acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic growth initiatives.
  • Assist the CFO with financial modeling, strategic analyses, and special projects.
Process Improvement & Technology
  • Champion continuous improvement across accounting and finance processes.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation and increased efficiency.
  • Optimize ERP systems, reporting tools, and financial workflows.
  • Leverage business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
  • Develop and maintain scalable accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Research and implement technical accounting guidance.
  • Manage sales tax, CAT tax, payroll tax, and other required regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate external audits and serve as the primary accounting contact for auditors.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial integrity.
Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
  • Establish performance expectations and support professional development.
  • Build scalable processes that support the company's continued growth.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and corporate accounting.
  • Supervisory experience and proven leadership skills.
  • Experience managing month-end close and financial statement preparation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience within construction, mechanical contracting, specialty contracting, or other project-based industries.
  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-location organizations.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and revenue recognition.
  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems.
  • Experience developing dashboards and business intelligence reporting.
Technical Skills
  • Modern ERP platforms (Vista, Sage Intacct, Workday, IFS, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)

Compensation  $130,000 - 160,000 + bonus commensurate based on skills and experience
 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 5-7 years of relevant accounting/finance experience
  • Supervisory experience (lead a team)
  • Experience managing multi-company accounting operations (financial reporting, A/R, A/P, Payroll, Cost Accounting, Revenue Recognition)
  • Knowledge of administration and management principles (strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership)
  • Mathematics knowledge (arithmetic, algebra, statistics)
  • Economics and accounting principles and practices
  • Complex problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Operations analysis and systems analysis skills
  • CPA with 2+ years in public accounting
  • CMA certification
  • Experience with organizations that have multiple sites and companies
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, import/export)
  • Microsoft Access (queries and reports)
  • Power BI
  • Familiarity with accounting software (Sampro, Workday, Sage Intacct, etc.)
