Position Summary
We are seeking a Controller who will be responsible for managing all financial activities for Redtail Renewables, with a focus on supporting the financial operations of renewable energy projects, particularly landfill Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) developments. This position will oversee accounting and financial reporting, treasury, tax, and financial controls, ensuring the company's financial health and alignment with its strategic growth initiatives. The Controller will report to the CFO and work closely with senior leadership to manage financial risk, maximize profitability, and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across multi-entity structure, including project level entities and the corporate holding company
Prepare accurate, GAAP-compiant consolidated and entity level financial statemetns on a timely basis
Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and supporting schedules; ensure reconciliations are complete and well documented
Lead external audit, serving as primary liaison to auditors and ensuring timely, clean completion
Produce reporting packages and ad hoc analyses for management, the board, lenders, and investors
Oversee project-level and corporate financial statements to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
Project and Operational Finance
Track project costs against AFEs and budgets across development, construction, and operating phases
Administer the CapEx control framework, including capitalization policy, in-service determinations, and fixed-asset roll-forwards.
Support construction-period accounting, including draw schedules, capitalized interest, and contractor/vendor cost tracking.
Partner with project and commercial teams to build and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete analyses
Treasury, AP/AR & Cash Management
Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including the Ramp/AP workflow, approval routing, and vendor management.
Manage cash forecasting and liquidity across all entities
Administer banking relationships at the operational level and maintain supporting documentation for debt servicing
Regulatory Compliance and Taxation
Coordinate federal, state, and local tax filings with external advisors across the company's multi-state footprint.
Support tax-credit and incentive workstreams (e.g., ITC, prevailing-wage/apprenticeship, and domestic-content documentation), maintaining audit-ready support.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
Controls, Payroll, and Systems
Maintain and improve internal controls appropriate to a growing, PE-backed platform
Oversee multi-state payroll processing in coordination with payroll provider and reconcile payroll to GL
Administer accounting and expense systems; drive automation and process improvement across close, AP/AR, and reporting
Support employee benefits and corporate/project insurance programs from an accounting and compliance standpoint
Required Skills & Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA required.
Experience: 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting experience and industry experience within energy, renewable energy, infrastructure, construction, or project-based businesses.
Project Accounting: Proven experience managing project accounting for large-scale infrastructure or energy projects, including cost tracking and CapEx management.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software, accounting systems, and Excel for financial modeling and analysis.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret financial data, conduct variance analysis, and provide actionable recommendations.
Location: Dallas, TX (Houston, TX also considered)

Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- 15+ years progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and energy/infrastructure/project-based industry experience
- Proven project accounting experience for large-scale infrastructure or energy projects (cost tracking, CapEx management)
- Experience owning monthly, quarterly, and annual multi-entity close and GAAP-compliant consolidated financial statements
- Experience leading external audits and serving as primary liaison to auditors
- Proficiency with Excel for financial modeling and analysis
- Proficiency with accounting systems and financial software (expense management like Ramp noted)
- Strong analytical skills, variance analysis, and ability to produce management/investor reporting
- Experience managing treasury, cash forecasting, AP/AR, and banking/debt support
- Experience with multi-state payroll processing and payroll reconciliation to GL
- Familiarity with tax filings, tax-credit and incentive documentation (ITC, prevailing-wage, domestic-content)
