Position Summary:
Under the general direction of executive leadership, the Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control structure. This role ensures accurate financial data, compliance with GAAP and company policies, and provides critical analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Controller partners with project management, operations, and executive teams to drive financial excellence and operational efficiency across the organization.
What You Will Do
- Oversees the daily operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, job costing, and fixed assets.
- Directs the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for credit and private equity reporting including bank certifications, management analyses, outside tax preparation and other reporting documents.
- Analyzes financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends and variances that impact company results.
- Leads the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of reconciliations, accruals, and reporting deliverables.
- Provides proactive financial guidance to executive management and department leaders to support decision-making, profitability analysis, and operational improvements.
- Develops and maintains internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates the annual audit and manages relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
- Oversees or partners with peer to support cash management, banking relationships, and credit administration, ensuring adequate liquidity and effective risk management.
- Drives the evaluation, implementation, and continuous improvement of accounting systems, tools, and financial processes.
- Mentors and develops accounting team members, promoting professional growth, accuracy, and accountability.
- Partners with Project Management to ensure timely and accurate project cost tracking, revenue recognition, and margin reporting.
- Collaborates with Operations and Estimating teams to provide financial insights on bids, budgets, and project performance.
- Partners with peers in and supports FP&A, treasury, payroll/payables processing and tax activities, forecasts and analysis.
- Complies with the PRIME Safety Program—learns and follows safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Maintains a physical presence onsite and provides assistance to leadership, managers, and project teams as needed.

What You Will Need To Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 15 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience with credit agreements & reporting and private equity reporting.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate insights clearly to leadership.
- Experience in an electrical contracting or construction industry helpful.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Vista by Viewpoint highly desirable.
- Proven success managing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and process improvement.

- Directly supervises accounting team members across multiple business units including Staff Accountants.
- Provides leadership, training, and performance management to support department goals and professional development.
