This is a hands-on position and all candidates must live in the New York, New York, metropolitan area because you'll work in our downtown Manhattan studio three days per week, with two days offsite.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller manages the Accounting and Financial Reporting functions and all financial services, including Credit, A/R, and A/P. This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The Controller implements and maintains a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and US GAAP requirements.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Prepares financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Conducts monthly closings consistently and accurately, working with financial analyst.
- Develop integrated financial Excel models capable of illustrative forecasting scenarios for leadership.
- Develops accurate and detailed weekly cash flow forecast and scorecarding to support decision-making.
- Works hand in hand with each business unit leader to develop accurate and timely project job estimates to allow for competitive price quotes.
- Provides financial information, data, and reporting to senior leadership to inform them about the company's financial health and recommend areas of improvement, risk, and potential profit across projects companywide.
- Prepares financial reports that comply with policies and directives using GAAP reporting requirements.
- Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary to accurately account for consolidated business results.
- Directs preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification. Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company's financial records. Further responsible for implementing agreed-upon recommendations related to areas of responsibility resulting from the audit findings.
- Supervises the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation.
- Develops and monitors business performance metrics.
- Oversees regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
- Prepares reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
- Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Provides management with timely reviews of an organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
- Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
- Ensures that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.
- Ensures that credit risk is balanced with business objectives, targets are met and that only valid claims with proper management authorization are paid.
- Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions.
- Other duties as assigned by CEO and CHRO.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
A bachelor's degree in accounting or a similar subject without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the safety or health of employees or others. - 5+ years experience as an Assistant Controller or Controller overseeing the general accounting function, including inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting, balance sheet management (excluding inventory-related items), and billing system.
- Conduct monthly close for the company and work alongside the financial analyst.
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions, including general accounting, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to provide actionable insights for business decision-making.
- Knowledge of financial record-keeping practices.
- The ability to analyze situations and make decisions based on long-term goals and objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related MS Office Suite programs.
- Experience with Quickbooks and Gravity accounting software or similar platforms is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
- CPA or CMA certification is required for this position.
