About the role
Two Chairs is looking for a Controller to build out and lead our accounting function and team. You will report directly to the VP of Finance and own the company’s accounting function, including internal and external financial reporting, monthly/quarterly close, financial operations, tax, treasury, and management of key financial systems and processes. 

This role is perfect for a dynamic and driven individual ready to build an accounting function that is efficient, scalable, and ready to support the company’s ongoing rapid growth. You will partner closely with the VP of Finance, FP&A, cross-functional peers, and other company executives on everything from accounting and reporting matters to shaping the future of our financial strategy. This is an opportunity to drive impactful changes and innovations to our accounting function with a highly collaborative and exceptional team while achieving exceptional personal growth.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Financial reporting and analysis (30%)
    • Lead the company’s monthly financial close process, with an eye toward improving accuracy and efficiency
    • Prepare financial statements and reporting packages for company leadership, board of directors, investors, and other stakeholders
    • Collaborate with internal and external partners to prepare variance analysis and develop insights to inform strategic and operational decisions
  • Financial operations  (40%)
    • Oversee accounts payable, vendor relationships and contracts, accounts receivable (in partnership with RCM team), general ledger, and other core FinOps functions
    • Develop and Implement relevant processes and procedures to improve company efficiency and improve timeliness and accuracy of financial data
    • Manage all accounting-related aspects of our multi-state expansion, including the calculation, booking, and execution of monthly intercompany receivables
    • Build and improve upon the company’s finance and accounting  tech stack to support continued rapid growth and maturity 
  • Treasury, tax, risk management (15%)
    • Strengthen internal controls through the drafting and documentation of accounting and FinOps policies to support the integrity of financial statements and operations
    • Oversee treasury strategy and operations, including banking relationships, cash management, and liquidity
    • Develop and maintain a reliable cash forecast and manage ongoing cash reporting processes
    • Direct company tax strategy, filings, and returns
  • Team leadership and growth  (15%)
    • Build and manage a high-performing accounting function
    • Prepare Two Chairs for annual financial audit and oversee audit process 
    • Set accounting strategy and approach to serve the broader company mission and goals 
    • Collaborate with other members of the finance team, company leadership, and cross-functional partners on critical business challenges

Impact and Success Indicators 

Where you’ll make an impact in the first 90 days:

  • Evaluate current needs and biggest areas of opportunity for the accounting function at Two Chairs
  • Begin to build the accounting team by identifying, hiring, and onboarding excellent talent in key focus areas
  • Assume ownership of the company’s monthly financial close process, identifying and actioning opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Oversee all financial reporting, including the preparation of financial statements for internal financial reviews and reporting to external stakeholders
  • Bring the full accounting function in-house the accounting function and prepare for financial audit

 Where you’ll make an impact in the first year:

  • Fully build out the accounting team in a way that supports the company’s goals
  • Support the company’s rapid expansion on an ongoing basis, including new contracts, intercompany agreements, new state registrations, and other items  
  • Identify and build a robust accounting and finance tech stack that enables ongoing growth and efficiency
  • Level-up our existing accounting processes and workstreams, driving efficiency, removing friction, and improving speed and accuracy
  • Develop and implement a strong financial controls appropriate for the scale of company we’re building
  • Oversee the company’s audit process, acting a primary liaison with external audit partners

 You’ll be successful if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification is preferred
  • Proven experience (8+ years) at a large public accounting firm and/or in accounting or finance roles at high-growth companies; experience in healthcare or health tech is required
  • Deep knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards. 
  • Strong understanding of multi-entity consolidations and willingness to learn the complexities of compliance with a broad geographic footprint.
  • Desire and aptitude to build and manage teams, systems, and processes in a high-growth, rapidly evolving environment; comfort with ambiguity and the ability to work autonomously to create structure and drive outcomes
  • Proven track record of improving existing systems and processes plus identifying and implementing the needed upgrades to existing infrastructure.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide valuable insights.
  • Experience as a player/coach, comfortable digging in and being hands-on when necessary while simultaneously mentoring, developing, and supporting a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; can partner with all functions and levels, and can synthesize efficiently to convey key points


Compensation

The salary range for this full-time, exempt role is $195,500 to $264,500 annually. New hires can reasonably expect an offer between $195,500 and $230,000. Placement in this range is based on qualifications and experience.
