About the Role

SmartMedia Technologies is seeking a dynamic, hands-on, and experienced Controller to join our Accounting team. In this pivotal role, you will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the financial management and accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of trustworthiness, personal accountability, and exceptional ethics. As the Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and driving financial strategies to support our company's growth.

What you’ll do

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of the accounting department, including invoicing, accounts receivable collections, accounts payable, cash management, cash forecasting, treasury management, revenue recognition, and expense management.
  • Drive month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with the FP&A function for reporting, budgeting, and KPI analyses.

Internal Controls:

  • Develop and implement effective financial controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Monitor and continuously improve internal control procedures to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare timely and accurate consolidated financial statements, reports, and analyses.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

Compliance and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee annual audits or reviews.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within finance and accounting functions.
  • Streamline financial processes to enhance overall efficiency.
  • Handle other tasks, duties, or special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities that demonstrate innovation, passion, service, and execution:

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated understanding of US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Proficiency in financial statement preparation and audit processes.
  • Competence in utilizing accounting software (Office365, QuickBooks, Zero, CORE, Advantage, FileZilla, etc.).

Skills:

  • Strong mathematical and numerical skills for accurate data analysis.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis techniques and problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail when recording financial transactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities:

  • Critical thinking and evaluation of financial information and strategies.
  • Adaptability to changes in accounting standards, technologies, and business practices.
  • Collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and staying updated with accounting trends.

 

Education, Experience and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent qualifications and/or work experience in a related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Controller or similar role, with a focus on SaaS or technology companies.
  • Proficiency in SaaS accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience leading teams.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation 

There is a different pay range applicable to specific work locations and regions. Base salary for this role is in the range of $130 - 180K per annum and is dependent on numerous varying factors, including but not limited to location, skills, work experience, job-related knowledge, and location. This range does not include other compensation benefits.
