TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies.
We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack.
We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction.
Leave your mark on the future of civilization-scale energy infrastructure.
CompanyTAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure. (TAR is working directly with one of the largest compute providers to scale and deploy 5GWs by 2028)
We operate on…
High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed.
Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We push ourselves to go faster.
First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption.
Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future.
As Controller, you own the finance function: every dollar that moves through the company moves through you. Vendor invoices are verified and paid on time, customer invoices go out accurately, books close monthly, and cash positions are known to the dollar. This is a hands-on builder role for a senior operator, based in Austin (on-site preferred): today the work lives with the founders and spreadsheets, and you will take it over, do it yourself, and build the systems, controls, and team to scale from one project to a multi-GW platform.
ResponsibilitiesOwn accounts payable end to end: verify vendor invoices against POs, contracts, and delivery or milestone documentation, route them for approval, and execute payment on schedule.
Run payment controls that make fraud impossible: verified vendor master data, callback verification of bank detail changes, dual approvals on large payments, and a clean audit trail on every disbursement.
Own accounts receivable: issue POs and invoices to customers and offtakers, track contract milestones and payment terms, and manage collections.
Run the monthly close, including reconciliations, accruals, and intercompany entries across parent and project entities, and deliver timely GAAP financial statements.
Own project cost accounting: track actuals against budget by cost code, manage retainage and lien waivers, and give the delivery team real-time visibility on spend.
Work with outside tax advisors to maintain equipment cost basis and tax credit documentation, including safe-harbored equipment, and support audits, lender reporting, and diligence with defensible numbers.
Manage cash across operating and project accounts: banking relationships, cash forecasting, and funding so payments never wait on money movement.
Own the finance stack: select and implement ERP, AP, and expense tooling, then hire and build the accounting team as transaction volume scales.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience with full ownership of a monthly close; CPA strongly preferred.
Hands-on AP and AR ownership at real volume: PO matching, approval workflows, payment execution, customer billing, and collections.
Working command of payment fraud controls; you can describe your vendor bank-detail verification process and approval matrix from memory.
Strong GAAP fundamentals, comfortable with accruals, capitalization, and multi-entity and intercompany accounting.
Experience implementing or administering an ERP (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar) and modern AP and expense tooling.
Extreme attention to detail and comfort being the person the buck stops with, in a fast, ambiguous, early-stage environment where you do the work rather than delegate it.
Construction or energy project accounting: WIP, percentage-of-completion, retainage, and job cost codes.
SPV or project-entity consolidation, lender draw requests, and investor reporting.
ITC or tax credit basis documentation experience.
First finance hire at a startup, or Big 4 audit training with energy or construction clients.
