Engineer III Controls

Primary Responsibilities for the Engineer III:

  • Design and Development:
    • Identify and understand the company’s needs related to control systems.
    • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement solutions to enhance control system efficiency.
  • Technical Support and Mentorship:
    • Provide technical support to team members.
    • Work with maintenance to remedy breakdowns.
  • System Configuration and Optimization:
    • Configure, standardize, and optimize control systems for equipment and processes.
    • Define system requirements and participate in system configuration.
    • Act as a liaison between end-users and system developers/OEM’s.
    • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Project Management:
    • Develop and execute projects from start to finish, ensuring successful implementation. 
    • Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of control systems.
    • Manage project costs, schedules, and budgets.
    • Develop business cases where automation and control upgrades can improve the thru-put and costs for a given work center or process.

Required for the Engineer III:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years working in the controls and automation industry.

Preferred for the Engineer III:

  • Experience in the steel automation industry.
  • Problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with engineering-related software.
  • Knowledge of lean principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC Programming.  Familiarity with Rockwell and Siemens controllers.
  • HMI development is required.  Familiarity with Aveva InTouch.
  • AC and DC drive knowledge.
  • Expertise with EtherNet/IP, Industrial Ethernet and Profibus Networks (CAN) is valuable.
  • Knowledge of automated equipment systems, robotics, and material handling is.
