Job Summary:
Blavity Inc. seeks a highly motivated and self-driven Contributing/Associate Editor for Travel Noire. This is a (W2) contractor role responsible for editing and publishing daily content tailored for the Travel Noire community. The ideal candidate will deliver trending, inspiring, informative, and viral travel content by leveraging audience behavior insights, data analysis, monitoring social media trends, and staying updated on the latest travel industry developments. Strong writing, editing, and content curation skills are essential for success in this position.

The Contributing/Associate Editor will collaborate closely with internal department leads and stakeholders. Their responsibilities include editing and publishing articles that engage and grow our audience while aligning with key business objectives. This encompasses managing high-profile franchises involving corporate partnerships, such as the annual Travel Noire Awards, our City Guides content program, and travel commerce content.

This role will report directly to the Senior Brand Manager, Travel Noire. 

Contractors will be responsible for providing their own equipment, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, or any other electronic equipment required to perform their role.

Responsibilities:

  • Copy edit and publish 8-10 stories daily
  • Write 2-3 articles per week 
  • Plan ahead proactively to ensure content aligns with special events, holidays, and top travel days
  • Update existing content (guides, news, etc.) for timeliness and accuracy
  • Maintain the editorial calendar and collaborate with team leads to keep our brands’ audience top of mind
  • Participate in the evaluation of content performance, including developing monthly recommendations for content strategy shifts
  • Safeguard and fact check content to prevent infringements and ensure accuracy
  • Partner with the Senior Brand Manager, Travel Noire and other leads on team goals 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Required Experience:
    • 4+ years experience with media and/or digital publishing, including producing commerce or finance content
    • Experience as a key stakeholder in cross-platform video content creation, including tentpole projects
    • Experience writing and editing content in AP Style
  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience with project manager tools such as Trackonomics, Skimlinks, Sovrn, Amazon Associates, and Rakuten
  • Technologies: Fluent in Google Suite, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Highly collaborative and solutions-oriented leader who excels in a fast-paced, evolving environment
    • Strong verbal and organization skills 
    • Effective and appropriate written communication and grammar
    • A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new directives are identified
    • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture

Details: 

  • This is a fully remote, U.S.- based role. Occasional travel may be required. 
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Candidates must be available to work 50% in alignment with the Pacific Time Zone. 
  • The hourly rate range for this role is $25 - $30 per hour and 25 hours/week.
