The articles are generally written by practicing attorneys on the developments in their area of practice, such as intellectual property, real estate, litigation, bankruptcy, etc. Others will require original analysis in collaboration with reporters and use of surveys, charts and graphics that denote developments in particular practice areas. The contributed content editor is also responsible for overseeing the NYLJ's Professional Excellence awards contest, including establishing outside judging panels, vetting and judging entries, working with the brand editor to select winners, and the publishing of the winner's Q&A's.

About the Team: As part of ALM's global newsroom, the contributed content team is focused on finding the most insightful and in-depth content for our publications and their supplements. The team reviews submitted articles and edits them, looks to find important writers and secure them, and looks for new areas of coverage to help broaden the reach and increase the depth of ALM's publications. • Line up authors, keep track of deadlines, edit each article, work with authors on editorial changes, write headlines, advise on layout and work with the art and production departments.
  • Oversee the NYLJ's Professional Excellence awards, including managing submissions, putting together judging panels, reviewing and judging submissions with the brand editor, editing Q&A's of the winners, and working with the brand editor on the event.
  • Evaluate the metrics for all the columnists and make changes based on that.
  • Assist with editing other contributed columns submitted throughout the news room, as well as occasionally editing news stories.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to edit cleanly, quickly and efficiently.
  • Good organizational skills and me management.
