Overview
Shift4 operates a large, growing library of standardized contract templates — covering our core commercial agreements, addenda, and disclosures — that are customized by jurisdiction and translated into multiple languages to support sales in markets around the world.
The Contracts Manager - Global Templates owns the health, accuracy, and consistency of this template library end to end: identifying when a change is needed; building stakeholder alignment on the underlying legal or commercial concept; drafting the revised language (or working with attorneys); coordinating translation; and working with Marketing, IT, and other systems owners to implement the change everywhere it lives — contract management systems, e-signature platforms, and public-facing pages.
This is a highly cross-functional role that sits at the intersection of legal drafting, project management, and operational execution. The ideal candidate is comfortable being the single point of accountability for a template change from the moment it's flagged through the moment it goes live — across every jurisdiction and language it touches.
Key Responsibilities:
Template Governance & Change Management
- Own the global template library as a system of record — tracking every agreement template, its jurisdiction-specific variants, translated versions, and current approval status.
- Intake and triage change requests from Sales, Product, Marketing, Compliance, and other stakeholders, assessing scope, urgency, and which templates/jurisdictions/languages are affected.
- Drive concept-level approvals by presenting the business or legal rationale for a proposed change to relevant stakeholders (Legal, Compliance, Finance, Product, regional leaders) and securing sign-off before drafting begins.
- Maintain full version control and audit trail for every template, including redlines, approval records, and effective dates, so the organization can always identify which version is current and why it changed.
Drafting & Legal Content
- Draft and revise contract template language to reflect approved changes, ensuring consistency of terms, defined terms, and structure across the template family. This may include working with attorneys to draft or review proposed language.
Localization & Translation Management
- Manage outsourced translation vendors for all non-English template versions, including scoping requests, reviewing quality, and maintaining delivery timelines.
- Reconcile translated versions against the source template after each change cycle to confirm every language version stays current and legally equivalent.
Technology & Implementation
- Partner with IT and systems teams to implement approved template changes in contract lifecycle management (CLM), e-signature, and document generation platforms, including field mapping, workflow rules, and clause libraries.
- Partner with Marketing and web/content teams to update any customer-facing pages, order forms, or embedded terms that reference or link to affected templates.
- Support and help evaluate AI-assisted drafting and contract tools to improve template accuracy, drafting speed, and version consistency across the library.
- Coordinate go-live and rollback plans for template changes, including stakeholder communication and training on what changed and why.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Legal Operations
- Serve as the primary liaison between the legal department and Sales, Marketing, Product, Compliance, and IT on all template-related matters.
- Contribute to broader legal operations projects and initiatives as capacity allows, including process improvement, metrics/reporting, and tooling rollouts.
- Draft and negotiate customer agreements directly on an as-needed basis, for candidates with the interest and experience to take on this work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in contracts management, template management, or legal operations.
- 3+ years of relevant, transferable experience in contract administration, global template management, contract negotiation, or contract drafting.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent matters, templates, and stakeholders in a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign or similar e-signature platforms, and AI-assisted drafting/review tools.
- Strong geographic and cross-cultural awareness, with experience working across multiple countries or regions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain legal/contractual concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort with version control, documentation, and process discipline.
Preferred
- Project Management (PMP) or contract management (e.g., CCMP, CCMA) certification.
