TheGrio is strongly building its editorial staff. It is an investment in the business's core competencies. These jobs will primarily be based in NY and Atlanta. Some of the positions will be opportunities to work from other cities or fully remote. Job Description:

TheGrio is looking for a video editor to edit compelling original video content for all of TheGrio's digital and streaming platforms. The video editor will collaborate with a production team to edit special video content and series. We're looking for a creative partner, who doesn't just execute edits, but is willing to contribute recommendations and ideas.This role is a vital part of our editorial operation and is intended for a candidate with a strong passion for original content creation. It is critical that this person has excellent news judgment covering a range of subjects including Black culture, lifestyle, politics, entertainment, social justice, health, business, higher education issues, etc.

The ideal candidate should have an expert background in video editing, and a portfolio that demonstrates the ability to deliver engaging work. The candidate should be able to edit under deadline pressure and optimize video content for digital audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Defines and edits video for specials and series in collaboration with production teams.
  • Utilizes advanced editing software and techniques to edit video footage.
  • Executes excellent sound effects, music, graphics, special effects and creative sound design to enhance video.
  • Adept at understanding story structure and assembling the most compelling narratives.
  • Works as a team player capable of clearly communicating with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with hosts and media teams to meet their vision and clarify storylines, but also comfortable working autonomously.
  • Willingness to collaborate across platforms, products and businesses.
  • Ensuring each show meets the highest video quality standards.
  • Cooperatively collaborates on production and post-production.
  • Ensuring the highest quality sound and video products.
  • Guiding and supporting junior staff on edits.
  • Managing uploads, publication, and organizing files in a storage system.
  • Ensuring the accurate and timely management of library, archive, and music material.
  • Managing time so that shows, packages and special features meet regular production schedules.
  • Able to build productive relationships and work with a team.
  • Must organize and juggle a variety of editing project for multiple shows.
  • Produces quality stories and products within tight deadlines.
  • Maintaining standards and practices guidelines.
  • Proactively supporting a healthy newsroom culture with high performance and quality commitments.
  • Helping the team work through technical issues and anticipate technical needs.
  • Stays up to date on news and current affairs pertaining to Black America and the diaspora.



Education/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in creating high-quality video content, from pre-production to post-production.
  • Graphic design and photography skills are a plus.
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
  • Expertise in Adobe creative suite programs, Canva, etc.
  • Must have expert level experience with all aspects of digital video production.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of online production and multimedia storytelling, online publishing systems and technologies.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and works well under deadline pressure.
  • Story-driven editing and producing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of current events.
  • Passionate about amplifying the news and culture of Black people.
  • Willing to work in Atlanta, GA.
