Area-I, an Anduril Company, is a Metro-Atlanta based company dedicated to the development of state-of-the-art unmanned aircraft systems designed for use by the United States Armed Forces. We specialize in the development of unmanned aircraft systems that eject from host platforms or modular launch systems. These platforms are designed to meet the specific needs of our customers, where we design, build, test, and ultimately deliver unique solutions to the customer. Area-I’s customers include the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and NASA.

Area-I is seeking an experienced technical writer to generate and maintain engineering and developer-focused technical documentation. The team strongly believes that documentation is a key part of the product development process. In this role you will work closely with users to understand how they use our products, identify gaps in understanding, and use documentation to close the gap. You will be the first technical writer to join this product group and will play a foundational role in setting the tone and quality bar on written artifacts, as well as helping to grow the technical documentation function.

With our focus on defense and national security, product documents play a critical role in ensuring that front-line decision makers have the best tools and information possible about Area-I systems. As a Technical Writer, your mission is to make this process as easy and seamless as possible, with exceptionally written and presented artifacts, while building world-class infrastructure and tooling for creating and maintaining our documentation content at scale.

Written content artifacts under this charter may include things like user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and API documentation. You will partner with engineering, product management, and the business across all phases of product development — from ground truth need-finding, to execution, to field testing and validation — to ensure that the user has the right documentation available.

This is an opportunity to join a small and scrappy team to help shape Area-I’s product experience from the ground up.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build partnerships across the business to understand our users and our products, with specific focus on the services built and supported by our Mission Operations and Technical Operations groups.
  • Generate, review, and edit documentation, that is user-focused and of the highest quality.
  • Contribute to Area-I’s technical writing toolkit, working on everything from style guides to the documentation lifecycle and review process.
  • Work with engineering to ship a user-facing docs surface area and internal infrastructure that encourages contribution to documentation by providing a delightful user experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for an opinionated audience.
  • Basic hardware and software proficiency - we value the ability to navigate software systems while also being able to turn a screwdriver.
  • A passion for excellent documentation and user experiences.
  • Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills, for a variety of audiences.
  • The ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, managing competing demands and occasional tight deadlines.
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export-controlled data.

Area-I is an equal-opportunity employer, and we encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. If you are someone passionate to work on problems that matter, we’d love to hear from you!
