Gimlet Media is seeking a Head of News & Knowledge programming to grow our creative slate of existing shows and bring fresh development ideas to life. This key leader will be a vital member of the Gimlet executive team, building and executing a vision for Gimlet’s content, working across our new and existing show teams to bring that vision to life.


This person will oversee some of Gimlet’s most popular and award-winning shows, including Science Vs., Every Little Thing, How to Save a Planet, Not Past It and the Journal, a daily news show Gimlet produces in partnership with the Wall Street Journal. The Head of News & Knowledge will also oversee the development of new programming in the news and knowledge category, developing a holistic strategy to grow our existing portfolio and build audiences for new programming. We are seeking a deeply creative and proven news leader who will dream up the next big wave of news and knowledge audio hits. The Head of News & Knowledge will report directly to the Managing Director. 

What You'll Do

  • Manage a slate of mature and highly successful shows, helping them to achieve new growth while maintaining the highest standards of excellence
  • Develop new programming that complements and builds upon our existing slate of shows in this category
  • Work closely with managing director to develop and implement content strategy across new slates of shows
  • Work closely with high profile partners in this category, like the Wall Street Journal, to expand our programming into new areas
  • Maintain Gimlet’s existing creative culture of quality, while also helping to imagine the kind of audio we can make for new and evolving audiences
  • Collaborate with editorial leads to create an equitable, humane and creative workplace for employees
  • Recruit and develop a diverse group of creative talent who can produce compelling work that resonates with large audiences
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues including but not limited to Marketing, HR, Operations, Legal, Finance, and Sales on seasonal and new show launches
  • Partner with these stakeholders to drive Gimlet content priorities and achieve growth goals including listenership, engagement, and revenue

What You'll Bring

  • A strong track record of producing exceptional and rigorous journalism
  • Excellent taste and ability to identify talent with great creative instincts
  • Proven track record of creating, inspiring and leading large creative teams
  • Experience building and overseeing content budgets that accommodate creative risk while delivering business results over the long term
  • Ability to work with and get buy-in from a wide range of partners across an organization
  • High degree of emotional intelligence
  • Proven track record of building inclusive and accountable culture
  • Familiarity with audience data and enthusiasm for helping show teams achieve their maximum growth potential
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments full of change, and ability to create clarity for your team in such environments while managing a wide variety of complex projects
  • Extensive experience managing teams in a creative content organization
  • Background in creating incredible content
