JOB SUMMARY
The Content Architect, Workflows leads the day-to-day reliability, standardization, and continuous improvement of content production workflows across CFA Institute’s Learning Experience team. The role operationalizes enterprise content transformation standards into daily production workflows across formats, including PDF, ePub, and LMS platforms such as Canvas, and serves as the primary owner for diagnosing and resolving complex issues that span Editorial, Quality Review, Production, and Content Technology (TAIS). The Content Architect, Workflows directly manages the Associate Managers, Content Production & Delivery who own format-specific workflows (PDF, EPUB, Canvas, and Localization), coaching them and reinforcing consistent standards and escalation practices. The position partners closely with the Lead Content Architect, Workflows and the Lead Content Architect, Systems to ensure workflow implementations align with system capabilities, and drives upstream improvements with Editorial and Quality Review to reduce rework and prevent recurring issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operationalize content transformation standards across production workflows. Translate defined content transformation standards and configuration behaviors into day-to-day production workflows across formats (PDF, ePub, and LMS platforms such as Canvas), ensuring workflows are implemented consistently and deviations are identified and corrected early. 20%
Own day-to-day workflow health, reliability, and performance. Monitor and manage the health of content production workflows across products and formats, identify failure patterns and bottlenecks, and drive resolution and continuous improvement to ensure reliable, predictable delivery. 15%
Lead resolution of complex, cross-team workflow issues. Act as the primary owner for diagnosing and resolving complex workflow issues spanning Editorial, Quality Review, Production, and systems, coordinating with the Lead Content Architect and Systems Architect to ensure solutions align with standards and are durable. 15%
Drive upstream workflow improvements across Editorial and Quality Review. Identify upstream content and process issues that create downstream production risk, and partner with Editorial, Quality Review, and other stakeholders to implement changes that improve content readiness and production efficiency. 10%
Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching, setting priorities, and ensuring consistent application of standards and escalation practices. 15%
Ensure consistent application of standards, accessibility, and quality practices. Reinforce and operationalize standards related to content structure, accessibility, and usability within production workflows, partnering with the Lead Architect to ensure expectations are implemented and sustained. 10%
Partner with Systems and Technology teams to support workflow execution. Collaborate with the Lead Content Architect, Systems Architect, and Content Technology (TAIS) to ensure workflow implementations align with system capabilities and support smooth adoption within production. 15%
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, typically including several years in content production, publishing operations, or business/systems analysis, with some experience supervising or mentoring others.
Demonstrates strong workflow and process management skills, including monitoring health metrics, diagnosing failure patterns, and driving continuous improvement.
Builds relationships, establishes trust, and communicates effectively across Editorial, Production, Quality Review, and Technology teams.
Applies strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex, cross-format workflow issues, identify root causes, and drive durable, standards-aligned resolutions.
Proficient with content transformation and publishing production tooling (for example, RSuite or comparable XML-based publishing systems, XSLT, XQuery, Schematron).
Self‑directed with strong initiative, able to work independently, and consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic.
Exercises good judgment and business acumen, escalating only the highest-complexity, highest-consequence issues to senior architecture leadership.
Experience designing, documenting, and operationalizing content transformation or production workflows across multiple formats (for example, PDF, ePub, and LMS platforms such as Canvas).
Demonstrated experience coaching and developing people managers or senior specialists, including setting priorities, providing feedback, and reinforcing performance and escalation standards.
Strong working knowledge of structured content and XML-based publishing pipelines sufficient to partner effectively with Systems Architecture and Technology (TAIS) counterparts on cross-system issues.
