Milltown Partners

Our clients operate at the frontiers of innovation - we advise technology companies driving change, global investors funding the future, the giants of sport and entertainment, and influential individuals on the communications and policy challenges that define their reputations. Our work spans corporate and financial communications, policy and public affairs to engage regulators and policymakers, policy communications and leadership communications. We underpin the full breadth of our capabilities with research-driven insights and campaigns. We're also pioneering AI-enhanced advisory work for both our clients and internal innovation, using technology to unlock insights from data at unprecedented scale and speed.

The role

We're hiring at mid-level – Consultant and Senior Consultant – and we're open to hearing from candidates across that range.

Both roles sit at the driving force of our client work. You'll advise directly, set strategy, manage teams, and take ownership of outcomes that genuinely move the dial for some of the most influential organizations in technology, investment, and beyond. The distinction between the two levels is one of autonomy and authority: Consultants work closely with project leadership to set direction and execute; Senior Consultants operate with greater independence, interrogate briefs more deeply, and are expected to push the quality of our work without being asked.

What both levels share is a particular kind of disposition. When you read about AI, frontier technologies, investor trends, and scientific discoveries, you don't just absorb it – you think about how those stories are told and why some organizations define their reputations while others struggle to. You're drawn to technically complex communications challenges. You think forensically, extrapolate quickly, and make things land with media, policymakers, and technical audiences alike. We want people who can demonstrate that, not just describe it.

What you'll do

Shape communications strategy

You'll draw on deep knowledge of channels and audiences to position clients and tell their story – including translating technical, scientific, or regulatory subject matter into narratives that resonate with both specialist and non-technical communities. That means working with client team leads to set strategy and priorities, building integrated communications plans, and designing research briefs that ensure advice is grounded in insight rather than assumption. Senior Consultants are expected to interrogate briefs, challenge assumptions, and bring their own perspective rather than simply delivering what's asked.

Advise clients

You'll earn the trust of a range of clients and deliver recommendations that are understood and acted on. You'll produce compelling written content and drive significant communications moments – major announcements, media briefings, speeches, owned-channel campaigns, events. You'll stay across the issues your clients face, from regulatory developments to research papers, and use tools including Claude, Gemini, Factiva, and Meltwater to generate insight and support complex deliverables.

Drive and deliver client work

You'll manage the work of junior colleagues, create clear project plans, delegate effectively, and ensure work is delivered to a high standard. Getting things done well and supporting others to do the same is central to both roles.

Use AI to drive better outcomes

You'll use AI tools regularly to improve the quality and efficiency of what you deliver. That means applying Claude, Gemini, and our internal AI Studio to research, insight generation, and analysis at scale. You'll contribute to how we share AI knowledge across teams, experiment with AI-powered workflows, and help ensure all outputs meet our quality standards.

Contribute to the business

You'll apply your understanding of the commercial context in which clients operate, contribute to internal projects, and bring restlessness to spotting growth and development opportunities – whether that's finding new ways to help existing clients, running teams more efficiently, or identifying technologies and markets that might benefit from communications support.

Build a collaborative environment

You'll give and receive feedback regularly, actively seek input from colleagues at all levels, and contribute to an inclusive environment where brilliant work happens.

What we're looking for

    Essential:

    • 3–7 years of communications experience, ideally in a consultancy environment, with exposure to technology clients – Consultants typically have 3–5 years; Senior Consultants typically have 5–7 years.

    • A genuine drive to go deep into unfamiliar territory, find the angles others miss, and produce work grounded in real understanding of the subject matter.

    • Strong written and editorial skills: you can take a complex brief and produce something clear, compelling, and accurate without losing the substance.

    • The ability to get up to speed on technically unfamiliar territory quickly and do something useful with it.

    • Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders – founders, CEOs, or other leaders – and the presence to hold your own in those conversations.

    • Experience developing media strategies and working with journalists across tier-1 tech press and specialist outlets.

    • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) effectively, safely, and critically in a professional setting.

    • Project management experience: planning and delivering work against agreed goals, timelines, and budgets.

    • Experience managing junior colleagues and delegating effectively.

    • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new areas and share that knowledge with colleagues.

    • Collaborative instincts and a genuine commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture.

    • Desirable:

      • Experience in or genuine familiarity with frontier technology, AI or investor communications– either professionally or through self-directed engagement.

      • Experience in research, policy, developer relations, or technical content.

What We Do

Milltown Partners is a global advisory firm working with influential organisations and individuals on the communications and public policy challenges that define their reputations. Our clients are leaders in their field: groundbreaking technology companies and their founders; global businesses and their CEOs; prominent individuals and renowned institutions. Technology and innovation are at the heart of our business and problem-solving approach, and we root our strategies in data insights and research on the audiences that matter, messages that work, and communications channels that deliver. We work as one team to ensure our clients can draw on our collective experience. The advice of our teams in London, Brussels, Dublin, San Francisco and New York is informed by everyone from our accomplished analysts to the founding partners, including leaders who have joined us from respected advisory firms as well as senior positions at Google, WhatsApp, The Royal Household, Uber, the British Government, Airbnb, the Financial Times, Manchester United or the BBC. By combining our breadth of experience, deep sector-specific knowledge and a research-driven approach, we help our clients analyse and solve their most important communications challenges. We are an Employee Ownership Trust. The people that work here own the company and share in its success. We're fully independent and will remain so. That means we can continue to do what we've always done: take the long view, build a business aligned to our values, invest in our people and their development, and innovate to improve the quality of our advice.
