The Constituent Assessor/Moderator is responsible for supporting the effective delivery and quality assurance of Renewable Energy programmes through the assessment and moderation of learner performance in alignment with QCTO standards.
The role ensures the credibility, validity, and reliability of assessment practices, contributes to compliance with accreditation requirements, and strengthens the overall quality and integrity of training outcomes. In doing so, the Assessor/Moderator plays a critical role in upholding rigorous internal quality assurance processes and enabling the successful implementation of Socio-Economic Development (SED) initiatives within the renewable energy sector.
Knowledge Pele invites suitably qualified and registered professionals to apply for inclusion in its database for upcoming QCTO-accredited Renewable Energy programmes. In this context, the Assessor/Moderator will support programme delivery by conducting and moderating assessments, as well as reviewing QCTO Portfolios of Evidence (PoE) as part of the internal quality assurance process.
This is a freelance role, with successful candidates appointed on a 12-month fixed-term contract, subject to the availability of assessment and moderation assignments.
Requirements
Assessment and Moderation Delivery
- Conduct participant assessments in line with approved QCTO standards and methodologies
- Moderate assessments to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with prescribed criteria
- Apply sound judgement to evaluate learner competence against unit standards and qualifications
- Ensure all assessment practices uphold principles of validity, reliability, and fairness
- Provide structured and constructive feedback to learners and facilitators on assessment outcomes
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Review and verify Portfolios of Evidence (PoE) to ensure completeness and compliance
- Ensure adherence to QCTO, SETA, and internal quality assurance frameworks
- Support internal and external verification and accreditation processes
- Identify gaps or inconsistencies in assessment practices and recommend corrective actions
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain the integrity of all assessment and moderation activities
Documentation and Record Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all assessments and moderation activities
- Ensure proper documentation for audit and verification purposes
- Submit assessment and moderation reports within stipulated timelines
- Track learner performance data to support programme reporting requirements
Stakeholder Engagement and Feedback
- Collaborate with facilitators, programme staff, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment
- Provide insights and feedback to improve training delivery and learner outcomes
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within Renewable Energy programmes
- Maintain professional engagement with all stakeholders to promote quality and accountability
Continuous Professional Development
- Stay informed of developments in renewable energy, particularly solar PV systems and safety standards
- Keep abreast of changes in QCTO, SETA, and industry requirements
- Participate in relevant training and development to enhance assessment and moderation capabilities
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered Assessor and/or Moderator with relevant merSETA and EWSETA accreditation
- Registration aligned to:
o Renewable Energy Workshop Assistant (NQF Level 4), and/or
o Solar Photovoltaic Standalone System Installer (NQF Level 4)
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy field
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience
- Experience within training, education, or programme-based environments (advantageous)
- Willingness to travel to programme sites as required
