Purpose of the role
To participate in the day-to-day activities of the markets division providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.
Accountabilities
- Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for the global markets division.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
- Participation in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, management of the deployment and launch of new products and services for the global markets division.
- Management of client relationships and provision of customer service support to clients and customers, under steadily decreasing supervision, responding to questions about products and services, processing of transactions.
- Management of the development and implementation of financial models and strategies that support in decision making in the global markets division.
- Training and mentoring of junior colleagues.
Assistant Vice President Expectations
- Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.

Hosted at our New York City corporate headquarters, the program will provide high-performing students who are pursuing a graduate degree with anticipated completion between December 2026 - June 2027 in a technical discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Financial Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Statistics, Calculus, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or other STEM subjects, the opportunity to connect with Barclays quants, recent graduates, and leadership across our technical disciplines at the firm.
What to Expect

Day one of the program is aimed at providing attendees with an insight into the various quantitative career paths at Barclays. The Electronic Trading and Quantitative Analytics teams will present on what their groups do and how interns can contribute, learn and progress in their career as a quant at Barclays. Following this portion of the program there will be an opportunity to hear more from senior MDs in Barclays and network with the teams and fellow program participants.
On day two of the program, participants will be assessed by our quant teams for the 2026 summer internship opportunities by taking part in interviews to assess behavioral and technical acumen.
Our Teams
Electronic Trading
Barclays has a top tier Electronic Trading franchise, with a high caliber team of Quants and Quant Developers supporting the business. The Electronic Markets team is responsible for:
- Algorithms and model-based business logic used in electronic trading in Markets
- Machine Learning and AI applied to trading and sales activities
- Underlying technology used in electronic trading and Data Science
- Risk management of eTrading books
The team has a wide remit, working across the major asset classes and is a significant growth area of the Markets division. You’ll need strong programming skills, in Java, C++ or Python. Part of the Electronic Trading program will run in two streams – Research and Engineering. This allows us to align you with problems tailored to your skill sets and interests. In the Research stream, you will spend time modeling research, prototyping your theory and testing how it can function in various scenarios. The Engineering stream will allow you to code and learn how theory is converted into practice. Your code could even be delivered into a production style environment.
Quantitative Analytics
The Markets Quantitative Analytics team develops mathematical models, statistical techniques and computational tools by working with diverse teams spanning trading, technology and risk. Leveraging quantitative finance models and AI/ML techniques, the team develops data driven insights, improving decision making and partnering with trading desks to automate strategies, manage risks and deliver franchise benefits. Markets quant are specialized modelers and developers responsible for researching, innovating, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting all quantitative models used for valuation and risk management across all asset classes. Joining the group that partners with traders and risk managers across the bank, you’ll gain the widest exposure to a variety of modelling techniques and instruments to help drive business strategy.
