Configuration/Requirements Engineer

The Configuration/Requirements Engineer is responsible for managing system requirements, technical baselines, configuration items, and engineering changes throughout the system lifecycle. This role ensures that requirements and system configurations are accurately documented, traceable, controlled, and aligned with customer and program objectives. The Configuration/Requirements Engineer works closely with systems engineering, software, hardware, integration, test, and program teams to manage requirements, evaluate technical changes, maintain configuration baselines, and support compliance with established engineering and quality processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Develop, document, maintain, and manage system, subsystem, and software requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
• Analyze customer and program requirements and support their decomposition, allocation, clarification, and validation.
• Establish and maintain requirements traceability from customer needs through system design, implementation, integration, and verification.
• Manage requirements baselines and ensure approved requirements are properly controlled and documented.
• Support requirements reviews, validation activities, and resolution of requirements issues, gaps, conflicts, and ambiguities.
• Maintain configuration baselines for systems, subsystems, software, hardware, documentation, and other controlled engineering artifacts.
• Identify and manage configuration items and ensure appropriate versioning, identification, status accounting, and change control.
• Coordinate engineering change requests, change proposals, and configuration changes throughout the approval and implementation process.
• Evaluate proposed changes for impacts to requirements, system architecture, interfaces, schedules, cost, testing, and other program objectives.
• Support Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and other technical change-control forums by preparing change documentation, impact assessments, and supporting materials.
• Maintain configuration status accounting and ensure the current approved configuration is accurately documented.
• Monitor and audit configuration records to identify discrepancies between approved baselines and implemented configurations.
• Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure approved changes are properly incorporated into requirements, designs, documentation, models, and test artifacts.
• Support verification and validation activities by ensuring requirements are linked to appropriate verification methods and test results.
• Maintain requirements and configuration data within applicable engineering and lifecycle management tools.
• Develop and maintain requirements specifications, traceability matrices, configuration records, change documentation, and other engineering artifacts.
• Support technical reviews, requirements reviews, design reviews, audits, and customer meetings.
• Ensure requirements and configuration management processes comply with applicable customer requirements, program procedures, industry standards, and organizational policies.
• Identify process improvements and opportunities to automate requirements and configuration management activities.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, software, hardware, cybersecurity, integration, test, quality, and program management teams to maintain technical consistency across the program.
• Support program audits and assessments by providing requirements, configuration, baseline, and change-control documentation.
• Maintain data integrity, version control, and consistency across engineering repositories and related systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four (4) years’ related experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience.

The estimated pay range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
