About the Role
The Technical Lead / Component Development Engineer is the technical arm within Magna Purchasing department supporting (in this instance) applications from Radar as well as Powertrain / Electrification product areas. This requires knowledge of the following components (among other standard electronics): Gated Imaging Sensors, MMIC’s, Power Management IC’s, SerDes, Serializers, PHYs, Memory ICs, Gate Drivers, Flyback Converters and Transformers, and custom ASICs. The positions primary interfaces will be with the internal Magna Component Development Teams, suppliers of these components, and internal Magna Project (/application) Teams. The scope of work includes technical aspects related to component development from early supplier roadmap / component definition, the component selection / sourcing, and then the component development process after sourcing through PPAP. Tasks also include PCN / EOL processing as well as some post launch component support.
Your Responsibilities
The TL / Comp Engineer has the following responsibilities:
· Work as part of an internal Magna Project Teams to understand technical aspects of product area
(Radar, Powertrain, Electrification) needs, and translate them into requirements and prepare the RFQ
package together with purchasing.
· Work closely with suppliers to understand (and consolidate) their future product roadmaps, and to
influence them based on Magna Project needs.
· Provide technical guidance and support on industry semiconductor technology within the automotive
segment.
· Work closely with others in the extended Component Development team. The internal team frequently includes: Component Engineer (quality and reliability), Purchasing lead, Supplier Quality lead.
· Provide technical feedback and recommendations to the component selection and sourcing processes to meet Magna business goals. This includes generation of requirements, assessment of supplier responses, and close interaction with suppliers, the Component Team, and Project Teams throughout
the process.
· Fulfill the ‘Technical Lead’ role of the Component Team in the Magna Component Development Process implemented after component sourcing. This includes involvement in regular supplier meetings, technical requirements and issues discussions, approval of technical deliverables from the suppliers, etc.
· Coordinate activities of the team following the component development process (sourcing through PPAP). · Assist the Platform and Application Teams in the technical implementation of components into Magna products.
· Assist in evaluating Supplier Requests for Engineering Approvals (SREAs) / Part Change Notifications (PCNs).
· Some limited travel (domestic, potentially international) may be required.
Who We are Looking for
· Knowledgeable in semiconductor technologies
· Experience in Electronics development, Automotive background preferred
o Electronics design. Radar, Electrification and/or Powertrain background preferred
o Industry standards: IEC, JEDEC, AEC-Qxxx / ZVEI, ISO, AK-LV
o Automotive OEM requirements
o Understanding of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity (preferred)
o Some working knowledge of Engineering Development tools such as P-spice, Altium (used by Magna), Windchill, CodeBeamer
o Statistical methods, SPC, MSA
o Failure analysis understanding, such as 8D methodology
o General office computer skills § MSOffice § MS Project · Interpersonal
o Working globally with other departments within Magna Electronics (Component Teams, Purchasing and Quality teams, Product Teams, Management)
o Working globally with suppliers
o (Potentially) working globally with customers (as needed)
· Engineering Degree required, Electrical Engineering
· Greater than 3 years’ experience
· Positive attitude and self-motivated under all working conditions
· Capable communication skills to internal and external interfaces
