Position Summary 

Under the supervision of the Community Health and Wellness Senior Director, the Community Wellness Clinician (Clinician) supports the development, coordination, and implementation of African American Holistic Wellness (AAHW) programs. The Clinician provides individual counseling, facilitates mental and emotional wellness groups, and designs culturally responsive workshops and classes. 

The Clinician serves as a bridge between YMCA programs, community partners, and local service providers by offering shortterm coaching, appropriate intervention and prevention strategies, and referrals. This role maintains strong relationships with community organizations, manages resource and participation databases, and collaborates closely with the AAHW team to ensure a holistic approach to family and community wellness. 

Job Responsibilities 

Clinical Services 

  • Conduct initial assessments and develop traumainformedstrengthsbased, and culturally responsive treatment plans. 
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy for youth and adults referred through SFDPH, YMCA programs, and partner agencies. 
  • Provide short-term individual, couple, and family coaching sessions. 
  • Support crisis intervention and fulfill mandated reporting responsibilities. 
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and relevant privacy laws. 

 

Wellness Programming & Facilitation 

  • Plan, develop, and facilitate wellness groups, workshops, and classes focused on mitigating the impacts of trauma and supporting emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. 
  • Collaborate with AAHW staff to ensure programming is holistic and aligned with community needs. 

Documentation & Compliance 

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in accordance with BBS and YMCA standards. 
  • Complete all required program paperwork per contract, AAHW Senior Director, and Mental Health Branch clinical supervisor. 
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, program evaluations, and chart audits. 
  • Comply with YMCA policies, procedures, rules, emergency protocols, and documentation guidelines. 

Community Engagement & Partnerships 

  • Build and maintain relationships with in-house and community partners, acting as a bridge between participants and local service providers. 
  • Maintain and update resource lists and participation databases. 
  • Provide intervention and prevention information, tools, and referrals to appropriate community providers. 

Professional Development & Collaboration 

  • Attend clinical supervision, professional development, and required city/county trainings. 
  • Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team to support community wellness. 
  • Demonstrate YMCA values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in interactions with members, guests, staff, and volunteers. 

Administrative & Organizational Skills 

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills including followthrough, multitasking, and managing multiple projects. 
  • Exhibit conflict resolution skills and professional judgment. 
  • Complete incident reports and required YMCA of San Francisco trainings as needed. 

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The work environment for this position is primarily in an office, community center, or program space, with regular interaction in community settings such as schools, partner agencies, and wellness events. The role requires the ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, engage in occasional light lifting (up to 25 lbs), and travel locally between program sites and community partners. Work may involve periods of high engagement with individuals experiencing trauma, requiring emotional resilience, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment. The Clinician must be able to communicate clearly in person and through phone, video, and written formats, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support community programming.

Salary Description 

The Community Wellness Clinician position offers a competitive hourly rate of $37.50 - $45.00hour based on qualifications and experience. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.   

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (MA/MS) in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work, or within one academic year of completion. 
  • California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) registration (AMFT, ASW, APCC) or eligibility within 90 days of hire. 
  • Minimum two years of experience providing behavioral health services in a community-based setting. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of traumainformedculturally responsive, and strengths-based clinical practices. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record systems. 
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (YMCAapproved) and clear TB test. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working with AAHW target populations in communitybased behavioral health settings. 
  • Experience facilitating community wellness groups or workshops. 
  • Knowledge of the Bayview, Western Addition, and OMI communities. 
  • At least four years of clinical experience (if hiring at a more advanced level). 

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work
  • California Board of Behavioral Sciences registration or eligibility within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum two years of experience providing behavioral health services
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
