The Role
Lead developer advocacy and community growth for open-source ontology software. Responsibilities include organizing technical and scientific workshops, engaging OSS communities, building partnerships, contributing upstream, writing tutorials and editorial content, managing social channels, maintaining partner relationships, and communicating community needs to the development team. The role is fully remote within the EU/EFTA, offers significant ownership, and requires some travel.
Summary Generated by Built In
In short

We are building a HuggingFace / npm for ontologies. Ontologies are what gives data meaning – the new wave of AI applications needs them badly. We capture this wave.

Your job is simple: get our open-source software into the hands of as many AI & data developers as possible. We will give you ownership over the developer advocacy process and the tools to execute your plan.

Fully remote within the EU/EFTA, some travel, small team, lots of ownership.

What you’ll do

You decide. What matters is that it works and we get more adoption. If you just want to do a part of what we list below – that’s fine. Some of our ideas:

  • Organize tutorials / workshops at developer, technical, or scientific conferences

  • Talk to OSS communities – understand their needs, get partnerships

  • Make upstream contributions to OSS projects

  • Write tutorials and editorial content

  • Engage the community via social media and other channels (e.g., Discord)

  • Maintain our relations with key partners (e.g., content publishers, software companies)

  • Tell the dev team what the community really needs – what features unlock new use cases, for example

Who are we looking for

We are hiring ~2 people for this role. We are interested in all experience levels. Students are welcome.

Rigid requirements (MUST have):

  • Fluent in English.

  • Living in the EU or EFTA.

  • Able to travel.

What we will look for (you don’t need to tick all boxes):

  • Good public speaker, experience in giving talks at technical or scientific conferences

  • Can code, at least to a degree to be able to teach people basic programming

  • Familiar with the open-source ecosystem (track record of OSS contributions preferred)

  • Good writing skills, preferably demonstrated with blog posts, research papers, or other content

  • Experience with operating social media profiles (especially engaging communities, not just blasting corporate propaganda)

  • Experience in organizing physical events

  • Very familiar with the data & AI spaces (e.g., agents, analytics, databases, graph analytics, ontologies)

  • Experience building or growing a technical community

NOT needed:

  • Formal education or an impressive resume. We are looking for people at all experience levels.

  • Speaking Polish – we speak English only!

  • Experience with ontologies – we can quickly teach you that, but if you know them, it’s a plus.

What can we give you
  • We give you ownership over the process – it’s your ship. We give you tools to run it.

  • Work on high visibility open source projects.

  • Travel: scientific and technical conferences.

  • Equity on top of the base salary.

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Fully remote work.

  • Negotiable type of contract.

  • Competitive salary – strongly dependent on your experience level and motivation.

  • Regular team integrations (physical and virtual)

How we work

We are a small team, where we strongly prefer to give each team member ownership of a particular topic. There is no bureaucratic process. If you want to talk to the CEO/CTO, just hit them up on chat.

We are remote-first. You can work any hours that are the most convenient to you.

Our team members come from open source communities, academia, and tech. It’s a place where you’ll have access to some very smart folks that are a pleasure to work with.

How to apply

Your resume is not our main focus – your work is. Please include links to your relevant work: OSS projects, organized community events, talks you gave, social media pages managed by you, scientific papers, or anything else that is relevant to interacting with communities.

You can put these links either in the resume, or in the dedicated application form field.
