JOB TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

LOCATION: HEAD OFFICE

REPORTS TO: DIGITAL MARKETING MANAGER

Job purpose:

The job holder is responsible for the organisation’s internal and external communication efforts by developing, coordinating, and delivering clear, consistent, and engaging messages that strengthen the brand’s reputation. The role ensures effective communication across various channels, supports content creation, manages media and stakeholder relations, and contributes to initiatives that enhance employee awareness, customer understanding, and public perception of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Develop and deliver internal and external communication materials including announcements, newsletters, press releases, speeches, and reports.
  • Maintain consistent brand messaging across all communication channels and ensure alignment with organisational guidelines.
  • Support media relations by preparing media briefs, coordinating interviews, responding to media queries, and managing the organisation’s media list.
  • Crisis communication support during emergencies to manage messaging and media inquiries.
  • Manage strategic stakeholder relationships, including media houses, journalists, content partners and relevant external communication stakeholders to ensure accurate and positive coverage
  • Manage content for digital and traditional platforms, including website updates, social media posts, and corporate publications.
  • Support internal communication initiatives to promote employee awareness, engagement, and understanding of organisational programmes.
  • Monitor public perception and gather feedback through media monitoring, social listening, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist in organising corporate events and campaign ensuring clear communication before, during, and after the events.
  • Collaborate with departments to collect information and translate it into clear, audience‑appropriate messaging.
  • Ensure timely dissemination of information to stakeholders, partners, staff, and the public.
  • Maintain communication records, archives, and brand assets for accurate and consistent use.
  • Analytics and reporting on media coverage, social media engagement, and communication effectiveness.
  • Manage organizational change communication to facilitate smooth internal and external messaging during transitions.

 Key Performance Indicators.

  • Achieve PR Value above annual target
  • Hold at least one media engagement per quarter
  • Maintain a media database with at least 95% accuracy
  • Respond to all media enquiries within 24 hours
  • Deliver on communication materials including speeches, press releases and media briefs on time – 100% compliance
  • Grow engagement across all communication platforms
  • Grow staff engagement in internal communication campaigns
  • Submit monthly media monitoring reports within 5 working days of the month

 Educational Requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media studies or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations), APR (Accredited in Public Relations), CMP (Certified Marketing Professional), or similar credentials.

 Work experience

  • A minimum of 2- 3 years’ experience in communications, public relations, media relations or a related communications role.
