The Communications Engineer shall manage the complete lifecycle of the their team’s deployable communications systems, from initial design and development to installation and ongoing maintenance. The position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying circuits and components to certify system readiness while also advising leadership on the adequacy of communications services for mission support. Key duties include integrating new equipment, training personnel on the tactical use of fielded systems, and performing duties as a COMSEC user.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide for Senior Level Communications Engineer support. This support includes, but is not limited to, communication system evaluation, testing, setup, research, maintenance, and ability to act as COMSEC support custodian for NSA-provided authorized COMSEC account.
  • Provide Communications Technician support.
  • Provide support to DTRA and/or COCOM CBRN WMD search training, exercises, and operations in all operational and physical environments (air, land, and sea).
  • Support requirements in planning, development, and assessment of equipment as required, meeting mission requirements in support of NIMBLE ELDER Modernization efforts in the area of WMD search.
  • Perform duties related to the application, integration, design, development, modification, and installation and maintenance of Technical Support Group Deployable Communications Systems.
  • Troubleshoot repairs, modify, test circuits, replace defective parts and/or components, certify, and maintain the communications systems. Provide comprehensive advice to the Department and Technical Support Group Chiefs on the adequacy of available services to support the mission. Identify inoperative equipment modules, determine applicable substitution, and coordinate integration of new or additional items into existing data transmission components taking into consideration site location, availability and compatibility of protocols generated based upon requirements and objectives to be accomplished.
  • Instruct members of the Department and supported forces how to use fielded communications systems to accomplish tactical missions. Perform duties as COMSEC user responsible for the receipt, utilization, loading, maintenance, and destruction of COMSEC keys and the maintenance of associated COMSEC paperwork.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Must have working knowledge of DISA DISN network services, architecture, configuration, certification processes and procedures, CISCO, LAN/WAN, fiber, POTS and NSA approved encryption devices (Taclan, KIV, KG, Cylink) equipment suite programming, deployment, and integration.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Field or 10 years tactical military communications experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications connectivity with communication platforms: KU/X/KA band satellite systems, UHF/VHF radio, data systems, IP networking, mobile ad-hoc networking, mesh networking systems, tactical SATCOM, LMR systems, phone systems, and COP (Common Operational Picture) applications.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience coordinating with the training audience and developing realistic scenarios to facilitate training objectives.
Desired Skills/Requirements:
  • 4 years of SOF communications experience desired
Additional Requirements:
  • All personnel shall be physically and mentally qualified for deployment and performance of duties, to include tactical operations in austere, hostile environments.  This includes being able to complete and maintain deployment qualifications as referenced in DoD Instruction 3020.41, Field Manual (FM) 7-22, and DTRA Deployment Readiness Guide for Contractors.

  • A Top Secret Clearance with current SCI eligibility
