Company Overview

Most companies don't end in acquisition — they end in closure. Yet shutdown has never been given the same rigor, clarity, or professionalism as the moments that came before it. Nearly 4 million companies shut down every year, creating a massive, overlooked market. SimpleClosure is building the infrastructure to change that.

Having raised over $20M from leading VCs and trusted by more than 7,000 companies to date, we streamline the entire business dissolution process — from legal and tax to operational and administrative — as one coordinated effort instead of a patchwork of disconnected steps. We take it a step further by connecting founders with buyers for their remaining assets, so they can realize value that would otherwise be lost.

Joining SimpleClosure means helping define an entirely new category, solving complex, high-impact problems, and building the products and processes that support founders through one of the most important moments in a company's journey.

The Role

We're looking for a Communications & Editorial Manager to help shape how SimpleClosure shows up in the conversations happening across the startup world.

This person will stay closely plugged into what founders, VCs, lawyers, and operators are talking about, monitor the trends shaping startups and shutdowns, and identify the stories and points of view SimpleClosure should be part of.

At the center of the role is strong editorial judgment. You'll need to recognize when there's a story worth telling, develop the right angle, and turn it into compelling PR, executive thought leadership, and social content.

You'll also own our social calendar and help determine how those stories are distributed across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and other relevant channels. That may include written content, video, event content, founder stories, company data, or commentary tied to what's happening in the market.

AEO is another growing part of the role. You'll work with the Growth team to turn our strongest insights, expertise, and stories into content that can continue to be discovered long after the initial news cycle.

You'll report to the Head of Marketing and work closely with our leadership team, GTM team, designers, and external partners.

This is a hybrid role based in Los Angeles or New York.

What You'll OwnPR, Communications & Story Development
  • Monitor startup trends, news, founder sentiment, and internal insights to identify timely stories and POVs

  • Develop PR angles around company news, industry trends, proprietary data, partnerships, and founder stories

  • Build relationships with reporters, editors, and relevant publications

  • Draft pitches, press releases, talking points, and contributed content, working closely with PR partners

  • Help position SimpleClosure and its leadership as credible voices on startup shutdowns

Social Media & Distribution
  • Own the social calendar across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and other relevant channels

  • Turn PR moments, founder stories, company news, partnerships, events, and executive POVs into social content

  • Develop thought leadership content for our CEO and leadership team

  • Identify timely conversations where SimpleClosure should have a point of view

  • Work with design and external resources on visual and video content

  • Use video for interviews, events, executive commentary, and educational content

  • Track what resonates and use those learnings to improve future content

Story Sourcing & Events
  • Build relationships with founders, VCs, lawyers, and others across the startup ecosystem

  • Identify founders and industry voices with stories worth sharing

  • Develop briefs and talking points for panels, interviews, and fireside chats

  • Work with Community & Events to surface stories and insights from programming

  • Turn the strongest moments into PR, social, and thought leadership opportunities

AEO & Owned Content
  • Partner with Growth to turn strong stories and expertise into content built for long-term discovery

  • Create and edit deeper owned content when a story warrants it

  • Apply AEO best practices to strengthen SimpleClosure's authority on startup shutdowns

  • Extend the life of PR stories and executive POVs through owned content

What We're Looking For
  • 4+ years of experience in PR, communications, journalism, editorial, content, or a related role, ideally within tech, startups, or the founder ecosystem

  • Strong news judgment and editorial instincts. You know what makes a story timely, interesting, and worth paying attention to

  • Naturally curious and interested in what founders, investors, operators, and the broader startup world are talking about

  • Ability to spot patterns across conversations, news, company data, and industry trends and turn them into compelling narratives

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across media pitches, executive thought leadership, social posts, and longer-form content

  • Experience developing PR angles, pitches, or media narratives

  • Strong understanding of social media and how stories need to change across different channels and formats

  • Experience managing a social or editorial calendar

  • Comfortable interviewing people, developing briefs, and pulling the most interesting insights out of a conversation

  • An analytical mindset and interest in understanding which stories, angles, and formats actually resonate

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with executives, Growth, Community, design, agencies, and contractors

  • Familiarity with AEO and how expert-led content can contribute to organic discovery

  • Video editing experience is a plus, particularly for creating social-first clips and repurposing interviews or event content

  • Experience with YouTube, newsletters, or other owned distribution channels is a plus

What We Offer
  • Compensation: OTE range for this role is $90,000 to $130,000. Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and geographic market.

  • Competitive equity package

  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision

  • Life insurance

  • Unlimited paid time off

  • Hybrid role based in Los Angeles or New York

  • Two company-wide offsites each year

  • 401(k) with Traditional and Roth options, with immediate eligibility
