SUMMARY:
The Commercial Operations Manager will work closely with the API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Product Management and Sales teams to drive business performance. This position will collaborate with Product Management and Sales to meet customer needs by ensuring smooth operation of essential business processes: order fulfillment, short- and long-term production planning, financial forecasting, opportunity pipeline support, and customer communications. The Commercial Operations Manager will perform product management duties for assigned product groups within the API portfolio. The Manager will be expected to drive improvements within existing business processes, improving efficiency and effectiveness. The role will work closely with Product Management, Pricing, Sales, Manufacturing, Planning, Supply Chain, and other internal functions to meet the objectives of the API business at Mallinckrodt.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with the manufacturing sites and other functions to support and maintain the day-to-day operations of the business. This includes developing a good understanding and eventually an expert knowledge of the API business and the API processes used to facilitate day-to-day activities.
- Support the Product Directors in the development of product strategies for assigned API products, in line with the overall business strategy around pricing, customer prioritization, and defense of market share.
- Work with the product team, the sales team, and wider business to execute those product strategies by developing and communicating guidance for sales, supply chain and other internal functional partners.
- Identify and investigate new sales opportunities with the sales team. Work with them to develop business cases and when required present these to senior managers. Prioritize opportunities and follow-up on opportunities through internal processes to clear hurdles to realize sales.
- Develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts to inform supply chain and finance decisions.
- Facilitate strategic decisions around sku rationalization, process improvements, make vs. buy, and supplier optimization.
- Develop and communicate weekly sales projections inclusive of new opportunities and risks to orders and forecast.
- Work with internal stakeholders to coordinate customer notifications for product and process changes in a timely manner and with the sales team to ensure all customers are notified of changes as required.
- Synthesize data from various sources into formats suitable for analysis, reporting and presentation.
- Conduct analytics for predictive modeling of market, competitive, and sales data.
- Conduct analysis and tracking of competitive and market intelligence relevant to currently marketed and pipeline products.
- Continuously seek opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
- Interact with production and planning on timing and readiness of orders.
- Work with IT, Product Team, Sales Team and other internal partners to develop and maintain tools and reports to automate processes, provide insights, and deepen understanding to improve decision marking.
- Maintain and update key commercial systems such as product data, CRM information, product brochures, etc.
- Perform back-up duties for Pricing Manager and Product Directors.
- Other duties as assigned in the areas of product management, market analysis, process improvement, and presentation of results and strategic plans.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
BA/BS required preferably in Engineering, Business, Finance, or other related technical or business discipline. MBA preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related industry in sales, analytics, pricing, commercial operations, product management, supply chain, engineering or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in specialty chemicals, API, or generic pharmaceuticals in a commercial function is preferred.
- Experience in competitive intelligence, marketing, sales, strategic planning, and/or management consulting would be advantageous.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Demonstrated strong business acumen.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly express point view using both written and verbal communications and communicate to multiple levels within the organization.
- Process mindset and drive for continuous improvement. Ability to manage tight timelines and competing priorities is a must; project management skills are desirable.
- Quick learner and adaptable. Able to interact seamlessly with different functional organizations.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to work through complex, detailed problems.
- Familiarity with financial concepts related to profit, loss, margin, and working capital considerations is required.
- Analytical mentality: able to find patterns in large datasets and identify trends and key insights.
- Independent thinking and a high level of initiative.
- Prior experience interacting with sales professionals, customers, functional leaders, and management is preferred, including use of CRM tools such as Salesforce
- Proficiency with the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) is required, high proficiency in Excel required.
Working Environment:
- Office based, currently on a hybrid office/home schedule with minimum 2 days/week in Webster Groves office. Minimal travel expected.
