In a nutshell

At Virgin Atlantic, we believe that everyone can take on the world, and it's our vision to become the most loved travel company. As we embark on this next exciting stage of our journey, we're harnessing our spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation to challenge the status quo.

We love to disrupt the market with fresh ideas, bringing new approaches to the industry and remaining a loud and proud voice for positive change – whether that's on sustainability, our people or our communities. So, if you're ready to take your career to new heights, read on.

As Manager – Commercial, West Coast US, you'll be our in-market commercial lead across the West Coast, helping drive Virgin Atlantic's performance through our customers, our Joint Venture and our partnership with Delta Air Lines.

Based in Los Angeles, you’ll work from the co-located Sales Office with Delta Airlines at least three days a week and act as a key connection point between Virgin Atlantic, Delta, our customers, and our wider Commercial teams. This is a broad, highly visible role with real ownership across the region. This is not a traditional direct-selling position. Instead, you’ll use commercial insight, regional knowledge, and strong relationships to educate and enable Delta sellers, identify opportunities, and help the Joint Venture perform at its best.

The role has been well established and is in a strong place, so we're looking for someone who can build on that good work, bring energy and commercial curiosity, and stay close to what's happening across key West Coast markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

Day to day

  • Be the in-market commercial point of contact for Virgin Atlantic across the West Coast, identifying opportunities and translating them into clear action plans.

  • Build strong, productive relationships with Delta Air Lines, Joint Venture partners, customers, trade organizations and other relevant regional partners.

  • Use data and commercial insight to understand regional and channel performance, identify opportunities and support evidence-based decisions.

  • Educate and enable Delta sellers on Virgin Atlantic, our proposition and the opportunities available across the Joint Venture.

  • Stay closely connected to regional developments and key verticals – including media, technology and other major sectors – so Virgin Atlantic remains relevant to customers and partners across the West Coast.

  • Provide a strong external voice for Virgin Atlantic with corporate customers, distribution partners, travel industry organizations and Delta counterparts.

  • Work closely with colleagues in the UK, sharing market insight and ensuring the region remains connected to wider Commercial priorities.

  • Partner across other commercial verticals and teams to make sure activity is joined up and opportunities are not missed.

  • Contribute to regular business reviews, weekly catch-ups and quarterly offsites, bringing clear regional insight and recommendations.

  • Represent the needs of the US customer and West Coast market into the wider Virgin Atlantic organization.

About you

You'll bring a strong commercial background, the confidence to operate independently in-market and the ability to build credibility quickly with customers, partners and senior stakeholders.

You will also bring:

  • Proven commercial experience, with the ability to understand performance and turn insight into action.

  • Strong analytical capability and confidence working with data to identify trends, opportunities and areas requiring action.

  • A flexible, hands-on approach and willingness to adapt to the needs of a broad regional role.

  • Confidence working directly with customers and partners, including presenting, influencing and building long-term relationships.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across different teams, organizations and time zones.

  • Commercial curiosity and strong regional awareness, with an interest in what is happening across key West Coast markets and industry sectors.

  • The ability to work successfully in a standalone role while remaining highly connected to colleagues across Virgin Atlantic and Delta.

  • The right to live and work in the United States, with the ability to travel across the West Coast and to the UK when required.

Previous airline, aviation, travel or Joint Venture experience would be advantageous, but we are also open to strong commercial talent from other relevant sectors who can demonstrate the skills and market mindset needed to succeed in the role.

What We Do

Virgin Atlantic first took to the skies in 1984 to shake things up, bringing a sparkle of red, a touch of wit and a passion for flying to the grey world of airlines. We fell in love with creating the best experience in the skies for our customers, and they fell in love with us right back. Since then we’ve become Britain’s second largest carrier, with non-stop transatlantic routes including New York, Orlando, the Caribbean, Delhi and Johannesburg. And thanks to our hugely successful joint venture with Delta, Air France and KLM, we can seamlessly connect our customers to over 350 cities across North America, Europe and the UK. Today, we want to empower everyone to take on the world. The customers we proudly fly and our people who go the extra mile. As we embark on a brand spanking new era of travel, it gives us more opportunities to do things differently and lead the way with fresh ideas. This means becoming more sustainable for our planet and our destinations, and working hard to make travel open to everyone, no matter who you are, who you love or where you go. And of course never, ever, forgetting the small stuff - like the clink of champagne glasses on a special occasion or a cheeky cream tea at 30,000 feet.
