Commercial Auto Underwriting Specialist

The ​Commercial Auto Underwriting Specialist - Auto​ is responsible for the underwriting integrity of the Auto portfolio.  They are a technical lead for Auto underwriters and are responsible for underwriting referrals, providing training specific to Fleet & Garage underwriting, mentoring underwriters and the maintenance and updates of the Commercial wordings and guidelines.


What you will do: ​

  • The Commercial Auto Specialist will be a key contributor in the IRCA Quality program for brokers, and underwriters, including the creation of TFR questionnaires, file selection processes, reporting format
  • They will support the review and updates of existing underwriting manuals, process documents and authorities so that it aligns to the new IRCA Quality program.
  • ​​​The Commercial Auto Specialist is responsible for the Technical File Reviews (TFR’s) and Focused audits (QAR’s) of the IRCA & Fleet underwriters including selection of files for audit, delivering results and coaching on areas improvement in conjunction with the Underwriting Excellence Manager.
  • ​Collects trends from all audits and engages the appropriate business areas to develop solutions to close gaps in underwriting rules, training, guidelines and processing instructions.​​
  • ​​The Commercial Auto Specialist will support training and mentoring of the IRCA & Fleet underwriters on technical underwriting knowledge. This includes formal training as well as individual mentorships.
  • The Commercial Auto Specialist will support the determination of training needs, developing training content and ensuring the training is delivered consistently.
  • The Commercial Auto Specialist will contribute to the maintenance of the Commercial Auto underwriting guidelines. They will propose updates and additions as needed using audits and training as input.
  • The Commercial Auto Specialist may assist in interpretation of Auto wordings as necessary to support Claims and Underwriting departments.
  • Will assist the Manager, Underwriting Excellence with the annual Commercial Auto Underwriting Authority cascade, including recommending changes based on results of TFR’s.
  • Will support the investigation and response to any Ombudsman complaints.
  • Will support the Product and Pricing teams, as necessary, on any IRCA FSRA filings
  • Support internal and external audit requests and implementation of any resultant actions

What you will need to succeed:

  • Post Secondary Education
  • CIP designation is required, FCIP, CRM is an asset
  • 10+ years Commercial Auto underwriting experience
  • Underwriting proficiency in IRCA, Fleet and Garage Auto lines of business
  • Experience in auditing and delivering audit results
  • Experience in delivering technical underwriting training
  • Deep understanding of auto regulations and products
  • Experience of policy systems and standard operating processes

Location: Cambridge or Toronto- This is a hybrid work model and requires the individual to work in office on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.

The expected base salary range for this position is $67,000.00 - $117,000.00. Depending on your relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary. You have the potential to earn more through Gore Mutual’s discretionary bonus program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.

Please note: This range reflects the expected base salary for this role but may not represent the full compensation range for all experience and skill levels. During the recruitment process, we will discuss and consider how your unique qualifications align with the broader range for this position.
