The Role
Manages safe, timely, and cost-effective cold outfitting production for shipbuilding projects. Oversees piping, electrical, ducting, and related trades; develops shop floor schedules; allocates workforce resources; coordinates engineering, production, inspection, testing, commissioning, and system turnover. Tracks performance, mitigates risks, ensures regulatory and quality compliance, leads safety and coordination meetings, documents lessons learned, and provides direction and feedback to shop floor personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for the safe execution of Cold Outfitting (COTF) production activities in accordance with the company's overall safety goals, objectives and policies.
  2. Direct and oversee cold outfitting trades (piping, electrical, ducting etc..) for assigned newbuilding project(s), following handoff from Block Steel and Hot Outfitting or Blasting and Painting.
  3. Develop, maintain, and execute the detailed shop floor schedule for Cold Outfitting work packages, in coordination with the Project Manager and NB Production Planning.
  4. Ensure Cold Outfitting work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual and classification society requirements.
  5. Coordinate the receipt of completed steel blocks and hot outfitting work from Block Steel and Hot Outfitting or Paint and Blast, confirming readiness for cold outfitting trades.
  6. Track and report Cold Outfitting cost, schedule, and performance metrics to the Project Manager on a regular basis.
  7. Manage shop floor workforce planning, staffing, and resource allocation for Cold Outfitting trades.
  8. Coordinate with all other outfitting groups: Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Blast/Paint, Deck Outfitting, and the Hull Assembly group on the various outfitting schedules and priorities to minimize or avoid space conflicts.
  9. Identify, track, and mitigate production risks within Cold Outfitting; escalate risks with project-wide impact to the Project Manager.
  10. Coordinate with Production Engineering on construction drawings, work instructions, work packages, and engineering queries affecting Cold Outfitting work.
  11. Ensure first-line workmanship self-verification within the shared Inspection and Test Plan for all Cold Outfitting work.
  12. Coordinate testing, commissioning support, and final system turnover activities with the Project Manager and other production functions.
  13. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, classification society, environmental, and customer requirements.
  14. Ensure compliance with Gulf Copper Mission Statement and Quality Management System.
  15. Conduct or participate in regular shop floor status, coordination, and safety meetings.
  16. Capture and document lessons learned throughout Cold Outfitting production and share them across the newbuilding program.
  17. Provide leadership, direction, and performance feedback to the Shop Floor Planner and shop floor personnel supporting Cold Outfitting.

Required Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in shipbuilding or heavy industrial production, with direct experience in outfitting trades (piping, electrical, machinery, or interior systems).
  3. Demonstrated experience managing a shop floor production workforce and schedule for a complex outfitting or construction project.
  4. Journeyman-level trade credential (piping, electrical, or machinery) or equivalent hands-on trade background preferred.

Working Conditions:

  1. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and / or rainy weather, combined with regular and extensive time spent on the production floor and waterfront areas.

Necessary Equipment Operation:

  1. Computer systems and standard office equipment.
  2. Shop floor production management, material tracking, and outfitting quality systems.
  3. Company vehicles as required.
  4. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required in production and waterfront areas.
