You will be a part of a team of motivated professionals, supporting our 350,000-barrel-per-day upgrader. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of our Upgrading Delayed Coking Unit assets.
As a Process Operator, you will play a vital role in the Conduct of Safe Operations (CoSO) process – a process within Suncor’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) that provides consistent expectations for safe and reliable operations, twenty-four (24) hours, seven (7) days a week.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in plant operations such as heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment/power plants or refinery operations

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure

  • 4th Class Power Engineering certification: ABSA certified

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Responsibilities & Key Behaviours:

  • Contribute positively to team culture

  • Follow operating processes and procedures to ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and environment

  • Conduct thorough unit rounds, with a critical eye for process and equipment abnormalities

  • Execute daily operating orders, and report on barriers to executing them

  • Prepare and complete daily area log and communicate significant changes and findings during handover

  • Troubleshoot complex process, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment problems

  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets

  • Prepare equipment for maintenance and commissioning

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta

  • The shift schedule is a 6 days on / 6 days off rotation (3 days on, 3 nights on, 6 days off; 12-hour shifts)

  • This position is safety sensitive

  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
