- Set up and operate CNC and manual grinders, including Chevalier, Kent, Jones & Shipman and Blohm machines, to perform surface and cylindrical grinding.
- Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to ensure accurate part production.
- Inspect and measure parts using precision instruments (micrometers, indicators, comparators, etc.) to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and minor troubleshooting to maintain equipment functionality.
- Optimize grinding operations for efficiency, tool life, and part quality.
- Work with tight tolerances, often within ±0.0005”.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and other production staff to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety and quality protocols.
- Document work as required, including job travelers, inspection reports, and production logs.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of apprentices or junior machinists, as needed.
- High School Diploma
- 2+ years of grinding experience, preferably in a job shop or precision manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in operating Chevalier, Kent, Jones & Shipman, Blohm and other flat or cylindrical grinders.
- Strong understanding of grinding speeds, feeds, wheel selection, and coolant usage.
- Familiarity with various materials including tool steels, stainless steels, and hardened alloys.
