Title: Director of Advising (Internal)
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: Salary and Benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Admin Unit. The position is currently pending classification.
Responsibilities: The Director of Advising reports to the Associate Dean of Enrollment Management and oversees advising functions within the Center for Advising and Registration (CAR) while serving as the institutional lead for Maine Free College, including student eligibility, onboarding, and ongoing support to support retention and completion. This position supervises staff, manages day-to-day advising operations, and leads retention efforts through the use of data and early alert systems, while also training frontline staff, ensuring consistent application of academic policies, supporting advising and transfer credit evaluation, collaborating with academic departments, monitoring caseloads, and improving onboarding and advising processes to support student success.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- 3-5 years of experience in higher education
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
- 3- 5 years of experience providing academic advising and transfer credit evaluation
- Understanding of best practices in academic advising
- Understanding or experience with a variety of career fields and/or career counseling
- Intermediate skills or higher with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with student information systems
