Job Description

The medication aide distributes physician prescribed medications and treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse and within the boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act of the state and in addition performs the general duties and responsibilities of the household caregiver. The CMA is a versatile worker that provides vibrant living, wellness and personal care to the residents of the household to meet their daily needs and enable them to function at the highest possible level. While this care is provided under the leadership of a professional nurse, the CMA is the residents’ closest advocate in the household, and is expect to take initiative and ensure that residents are cared for in a holistic manner. The CMA promotes the residents psychosocial well being through meaningful relationship building, and works with the household team to meet other social service needs of the resident and of the household, always providing support, friendship and kindness for each of the household members. The CMA plans and facilitates social activities for residents of the household, which provide meaningful ways to spend time as recreation, exercise, relationship building and fun. The CMA also supports the household homemaker in maintaining a clean safe household environment and in caring for the residents’ personal laundry. All CMA tasks are performed in accordance with current standards, guidelines and regulations and in a safe and efficient manner.

Qualifications

• Certified nurse aide and certified medication aide

• High School or GED preferred, but not required.

• Demonstrates strong communication and relationship building skills with residents, and is able to explain residents needs to others as needed for resident advocacy. 

• Commitment to person-centered and resident-directed care.
