At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As an Cloud Systems Engineer, a typical day will include the following duties:
- Analyze and study complex system requirements.
- Apply business process improvement practices to re-engineer methodologies and principles and business process modernization projects.
- Assist in establishing standards for information systems procedures.
- Collaborate with team members, customers, service providers and developers to identify requirements.
- Design, develop, and maintain various network environments, including the cloud environment.
- Develop block diagrams and logic flow charts.
- Translate detailed design into computer software.
- Expand or modify systems to serve new purposes or improve workflow – using containers, cloud development, enterprise PKI solutions, Linux, or Windows.
- Prepare required documentation, to include both program-level and user-level documentation.
- Review program problems including providing advanced troubleshooting techniques to quickly identify and assess issues.
- Lead deployment of system engineering techniques, methodologies and processing to architect, design, test and secure environments adhering to DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency), SRG and STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guides) compliance.
- Conduct Research and Development for emerging technologies for evaluation.
Required Skills and Demonstrated Experience
- Demonstrated experience in engineering multiple operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging automation tools and deploying scripts - Infrastructure as Code.
- Demonstrated experience providing detailed documentation and diagrams to support engineering efforts.
- Demonstrated experience providing architecture, design, test and secure environments adhering to DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency), SRG (Security Reference Guides) and STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guides) compliance in a disconnected environment.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing DevOps methodologies and tools.
Highly Desired Skills and Demonstrated Experience
- Demonstrated experience with containers.
- Demonstrated experience with Risk management framework or ICD503.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
